There has been no news or updates regarding testing of new missiles or productionising ones that have been tested the last few years. Looks like a spanking in a war is inevitable if this is the pace every aspect of the Indian military moves.

I doubt that lack of news means what you think. There are many, many notams nowadays but few get official confirmation. More likely, they are testing but choosing to not make results public.

As for Astra mk-2, few days back Astra MK-2 being tested from sukhoi was shown.

You won't get much news about Mk-2.

Remember it's virtually the same missile with just a new motor so you don't need multiple rounds of trials to validate each and every system.
It'll happen just like Barak-8 and Barak-8 ER; not much of announcing but slowly all Mk-1s will get replaced.

Literally no videshi option avilable.Amrikis won't give F-35, Rusi stuff not great, unless we can turn into a chinese colony and beg them some 5th gen fighters.

Or change our skin tone to look more like Anglo saxons so that we can have some sweet F-35s.

DAC, negotiation[price, spare, support, extra features etc- a long process] and finally CCS approval, but still cause issue with unproven/untested items.

Exactly and that's a major issue with our systems. We always give the excuse that if order is given, we would be replacing the foreign parts with indigenous ones.

Anyways, here except atags everything is like a done deal t & easy to get ccs approval.

I do not think they will replace all MK1s, keeping the range aside, the mk2 will be costlier and also heavier. Those wingmans may take in mk1.

I think they will, MK-1s have low range compared to nowadays. IG MK-1 will replace russian missiles, and MK-2 will be frontline missile.

It won't be costlier.

Out of all the sub-components of a missile, rocket motors generally tends to have the shortest service life; followed by warhead.
So by just replacing the rocket motor you're not just saving the cost of other components like CAS and seeker but also extending the service life of soon to be expired missiles.
