Isn't the age of towed howitzers essentially over due to drone warfare ? Shouldn't we invest more in SPHs or ATAGS truck-mounted version ?
• For the past 50 years we are already having the technology to add swarming capability to missiles where they themselves decides which one will engage which target.
(the Russia P-500 Bazalt)
• It's been almost three decades we have been using stealth cruise missiles than can carry a thousand pound warhead
(the AGM-158 JASSM)
• Since the last twenty years we have technology to make small 20kg class guided bombs.
(the US ViperStrike or Turkish MAM-L)

It's just a matter of months and we'll witness a stealth cruise missile, carring 20 AI powered sub-muntions or drones completely massacring the battlefield.

Something that US tried to do some 20 years earlier through its Assault Breaker program or by using ATACMS and BAT but eventually dropped it because of cold war's ending.

Anyone can fix it by simply making the hull bigger
Well, first of all, bigger hull itself is difficult to build. You need special machine to bend the steel to curve matching the blue map with highest precision. The machine has its limitation on the size of the steel. So, bigger hull needs better machine. You also need new welding technologies/tools to build the hull for strength purpose. All these machines and techs are high technologies only very few countries can build them.

The second thing is the speed. When hull becomes bigger, so the water resistance. In order to keep your speed, you will need a better engine with much more power intensity. And again, this is a big job too.

And then .......

So, my friend, a bigger hull is not the end of the answer, but the beginning of other problems.

So from your answer :
1. This boxy submarine design will be cheaper and easier to make
2. It'll be faster because of lesser water resistant
3.....

Coupling the gun to any platform causes the platform to be a single point failure.
Besides a towed gun is easier to camouflage . The Atags can drive itself a few Kms in a pinch.

That would have been more than enough if the counter battery fire would have been limited to just artillery; but sadly after few months it'll be primarily loitering munitions and UAVs.

Loitering munitions are not some brahmastra. If we go down this rabbit hole there would be no need for any kind of large asset if the counter to everything is loitering munitions.
Besides the most effective use of UAVs has been real time fire correction by artillery guns.

Transmission is the gear box + connection to the final drive wheel. The Arjun has a German transmission.
To develop an indigenous one they need a test facility.
Automotive companies have their own but nothing at the level that can handle a tank engine.
So private companies want to build tanks, jets and what not but cannot even invest in basic test facilities to develop indigenous products. And people here want DRDO/DPSUs to be privatised and project private companies to be saviour. LoL.

Depends .. if tata decides to develop a truck that produces 1500 hp power they will invest in that .. But other than those ridiculously massive mining trucks there is no need for it.
Even sakthi gears ( producers of the gearbox on dhruv ) does not list such a facility on their website.

Tatas/Mahindras/L&T/Kalyani have already decided to produce IFV,APC, APV, tanks and working on prototypes. If this is not the time then when will they do any R&D by themselves?
