Lol, even the current IAF is not aptly prepared for ground support just like the current RuAF. We have very little amount of standoff weapons for ground support, in our case just the few LGBs imported ones.IAF didn't even know there were incursions at the beginning. even after understanding the situation army was hesitant to use airpower that much.
Much could have been done like letting the AF take the lead once they realized the situation.
Definitely the real question. Don't even have good expeditionary capability or well established offensive capability even after 75yrs of independence. IA logistics is incapable of supporting its combat arms after a short distance from the border.
for IAF to adopt U.S like CAS doctrine, India will need it's own engine and aircraft. in U,S doctrine of CAS, limited number of birds stay up in the air at any point during the day and night irrespective of whether there is mission planned or not, at the time of take off. if and when ground support is needed, they get mission co-ordinates and objectives while in air. this is why during afghan war, ground troops could call up CAS to take out even a diskha in minutes sometimes, but not all CAS requests are approved all the time by mission command.Lol, even the current IAF is not aptly prepared for ground support just like the current RuAF. Even if you see the nomenclature and case use of new standoff weapons being developed such as rudram, LRGB, and saaw. All are for use against airfield targets and radars.
IAF is still in its mindset of its role as just to protect skies and well nothing of a thought is given to expand its role as ground support enhancement force. This is one place where we could have tried to copy from West.
Anyway do we even have JTACS integrated within our army on a uniform basis like USA, obviously not talking about Garuda and few Paras trained in it.
Relay. Even today (thanks to the IA's apathetic Signals equipment) IAF and IA do not talk to each other. a version of JTACS is available with IAF in 1971 war itself, IAF officers were on ground in dacca co-ordinating strikes in the last days of fall of dhaka. just a wireless set, not much. donno if it was a relay or direct comm. with mig-21s. remember seeing it in one of those 1971 documentaries.
What we are looking at
Any advantages for a tailess aircraft aside from stealth?
Aside from stealth I can't think of any...it only adds to disadvantage by reducing maneuverability.Any advantages for a tailess aircraft aside from stealth?
