Sounds like chinese gyrocopters

True , but still , u can land one vertically down with no engine power - meaning lesser noise . It's something of value.
I just realized the soldiers will suffocate, if not freeze to death if they fly it over the Himalayas, especially Ladakh.

But why wouldn't heptrs face the same issue (unless you are saying that they will have onboard oxygen for all).
Or did you mean the wind chill in these open-to-elements gyro will freeze them to death?

Hepters do, who said they don't. Hepters have heated cabins and oxygen supply when operating in high-altitude environments.

Even Cheetahs? I do remember they have o2 bottles for pilots but didn't know they had for passengers as well.

Environment trials :pound: :crying:
Watch some of these panels

The IA guys are SO proud of the fact that they trail to ridiculous extents and use it as a point of pride- its mentioned at least half a dozen separate times.

meanwhile the industry guys when they speak say they need more transparency, swifter order processes and certainty.

IA lives in an alternate reality, the generals at the top are complete clowns with everything backwards. Testing something for 10 years and in the meantime fighting with 1960s era junk is not something to be happy about.

DRDO tests of Very Short Range Air Defence System missiles successful
The missile is a Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPAD) designed and developed indigenously by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad in collaboration with other DRDO facilities.

THE Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Tuesday conducted two successful test flights of Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles capable of neutralising low altitude aerial threats at short ranges.

In a tweet, the DRDO said, “Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile was successfully flight tested from a ground based portable launcher, off the coast of Odisha.”

The VSHORADS missiles were launched Tuesday from a ground-based portable launcher at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) of the DRDO at Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. The missile is a Man Portable Air Defence System (MANPAD) designed and developed indigenously by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad in collaboration with other DRDO facilities and various Indian industry partners.

A press statement from the Ministry of Defence said the design of the missile, including launcher, has been highly optimised to ensure easy portability. “Both the flight tests have completely met the mission objectives,” the release stated.

Officials said the air defence missile incorporates many novel technologies including miniaturised Reaction Control System (RCS) and integrated avionics, which have been successfully tested during the trials. The missile has been designed to neutralise low altitude aerial threats at short ranges and is propelled by a dual thrust solid motor.

The MoD said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh complimented and appreciated the efforts of the DRDO and industry partners and said this new missile equipped with modern technologies will give further technological boost to the Armed Forces. DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the entire VSHORADS team on the successful tests.

+ a point that a number of the industry guys said was that when they speak to foreign defence attaches one of the first things that they are asked is is this system in service in india? And why should they trust something that their own country doesn’t want?

one of the Q&As had an African attendee ask to a panel with VEM, L&T, SMPP etc how can they be certain of the quality of Indian equipment without it being fielded already?

the import lovers are actively sabotaging Indian defence exports, before recent months I had always assumed there was a triviality to these things but now I’m of the opinion that no new systems should be allowed to be imported unless it has formal sanction by the defence minister themselves. The automatic route should only be IDDM- let the generals justify their import addiction.

what’s clear is that industry are ready to make self reliance a reality and there has been a mindset change in this regard thanks to Modi but the services are impeding this very well.

One wonders where does their trials bravado go in case of emergency imports. Videshi maal in no need of Mars trials?
Every same country inducted the system and improve it overtime in batches while our armed forces will accept nothing short of 120% of what is required.

This should be a policy for each and every major systems imported, the positive list is a step in that direction but services will go back to imports if goverment changes, the mindset of services need change more than the policies now.
