There is no other alternative option for the sea guardian UAV. It's sensor capabilities are unmatchable. Cheaper to operate and will save airframe life of P8-I. It's impractical and opex intensive to have the entire swath of IOR scanned by turbofan P8-Is 24*7.

If it is Sea Guardian, then i don't find anything odd in it. Integrated sensors for Naval Surface and AsubW, Sonobouy dispenser systems and ability to interface with those digitally to track targets will be game changing for navy. As per latest reports, Rustom just touched 30,000 feet. That too without payloads. IN has the vast stretch of IoR to keep track of 24*7. Employing a manned turbofan jetliner like the P8-Is for 24*7 is not practical.
