Adv:
1. Common between 105 mm Guns.
2. Easy to train gunners.

Disadv:
1. Bulky design.
2. OFB Quality control issues.

Should have been inducted much earlier. If it had passed all the user evaluation trials in different terrain like the deserts, mountains(high altitude) etc.
Would be interesting to know how the idea of developing such a system occurred to Baba Kalyani. Did the Army make a request for such a system.

Anyhow an existing Indian designed and developed artillery system is getting a second lease of life. Its utility value has been increased.

I am reminded of the venerable C130 Hercules transport aircraft, an aircraft designed decades ago but still saying relevant by transforming itself.

By using soft recoil technology and titanium to further reduce weight it will become more user friendly. Small increase in the cost will happen. If the vehicle on which it is mounted has specifications similar to a jeep, it will be very manoeuvrable in mountain conditions and narrow roads. Shoot and scoot capability.

In fact I would even advise its use in counter insurgency/terrorism operations in J&K. Not for routine use but in specific cases where the terrorists are well entrenched and the operation to eliminate them drags on and our casualties increase. This highly mobile artillery system with max range of about 20 km using normal ammunition can be quickly inducted into the area.

Though I believe the Army and the Government may not favour using heavy weapons in counter terrorism operations.

If it is inducted in large numbers in our Army, maybe even other countries may consider importing it. Special rocket assisted rounds to increase the range could be considered for development. Providing more options to the customer.

The weight of the Bharat Forge Gun is reportedly said to be less than a Tonne. They also recently developed a SPH (Wheeled) 155mm MaAG with Titanium barrel which was developed by the request of Late CDS Bipin Rawat. It was went for testing but result is not released till now.

Which company is providing them their truck? They had shown MGS based on BEML Tatra truck at Defexpo 20.

If only Kalyani could modify this gun and add an autoloader like the Archer, it can be a serious force multiplier opening up myriad uses of the weapon system.

Unrelated to this thread:
We need to teach our kids in school about what makes good governance.
1. Fiscal responsibility - so that kids grow up with an understanding of why unfettered freebies culture is so damaging.
2. Institutions > Individuals. Need to drill this in, a great leader does not only do chest beating but creates great institutions and great institutional culture.

In a democracy like India changes are bottom up, if we don't change mentality of people, janta will keep making same mistakes.

The Bharat Forge/Kalyani MGS is based on their own truck. OFB and BEMLs solution was mounted on the BEML Tatra truck.

Ome thing I did notice though was that the OFB MGS carries only 18 rounds of 155mm ammunition on the 8x8 truck whilst other competitors from this category carry about 30-36 like the Chinese SH-15, Israeli Elbit ATMOS 2000 and French Nexter CAESAR.

Just why??? Systems like Nora, Zuzana and G6 would be much better. Anyway Archer much more is costly and huge in weight compared to systems like Caesar which are like light and cheap.
Archer is somewhat a mix of truck arty and wheeled arty.

Can the Nora, Zuzana and the G6 be carried by the C130J Super Hercules? That might be something that our forces would definitely benefit from. AFAIK the CAESAR, ATMOS 2000 are definitely transportable by the C130J, the OFB one looks like it would fit (I might be wrong) , the Kalyani 4x4 definitely fits. I doubt Kalyani will make a 155/52 Caliber MGS as they’ve partnered with Elbit for the ATMOS. Unless they’re going to make one from ATAGS.

probably a typo , it probably covers 7000 square km area .

:lehappy: 7000km range seems like crazy
145 vehicles for 7000 sq kms sounds expensive both in terms of investment and also for logistics.
What sort of ability is it offering?

MGS shown in Defexpo was based on BEML. Here is the video.

Could even be with Elbit too, the truck design has a slight resemblance to one of the variants of the Elbit ATMOS 2000 trucks
Yes previous prototype of MARG was on BEML Tetra current one look like using a kalyani own designed chasis in collaboration with paramount
Bhailog gun pe dhyan dijiye truck mein kitna matha chalayenge
