DRDO was working on Multi Caliber Individual Weapon System but the program scuttled by IA in favour of AK-203.
As a matter of fact even Russians have not inducted AK-203 in large quantity. Only few quantity for for their SF.
Even large scale trials were not conducted for AK-203 before order we given.
SSS Defense is offering their platform to IA but IA went import route for reasons known to everybody.
MCIWS got shelfved not because of AK-203 but ;taktikal goal shifting; of wanting a 7.62 mm (x 51mm NATO one) rifle back then,
reminder when MCIWS was happening plus OFB came out with MK.1C Excalibur and what not, then DM Parrikar had given 6 months (or was it 4 months?) to the armed forces to select their next standard issue rifle and get done with that,
but then fate intervened and he got diagnosed with life threatening diseases-conditions, had to step down,
and...yeah
note that i understand all these 5.56mm being not much effective at mountain terrain at long ranges plus a better calibre to defeat bulletproof vests and stuff, but the way IA did it by kicking bucket of MCIWS and desi alternatives is absolutely disgusting...

As for the russians, they didn't induct AK-203 (as we know it) simply because they have surplus of 7.62x39mm kalashnikovs among them, they simply don't need newer ones,
entire program of "AK with rails" spanned out from putting a top cover with rails at least and as bonus railed handguards, end result was AK-400 that became AK-12, while AK-103M-03 became AK-200 series and in 7.62x39mm it was AK-203 as we know it now...in side of all these they also rolled out their own upgrade kit "KM-AK" to upgrade their stock of AKs in 5.45x39mm (those AK-74Ms) and AKMs, AK-103s etc with railed top cover, railed handguards, folding stock with AR-stock-style length adjustments etc..
so yeah...

rest i agree

The Ak deal is largely attributed to MOD as a political deal not to the Army, Army was conducting multiple trials

Those SSS AR 15 rifles definitely a step forward but, IMO seems a bit outdated. Especially the stock and the P-rails on 6, 3 and 9 clock. Hopefully this isn't the final product and more refinement will be done and we see a mlok hand guard and a much better stock, at least the same as in 716i.

well it's more than enough thing to be honest,
built seems monolithic = handguards are part of upper receiver itself, seems both upper+handguards are cut-milled off single billet of metal alloys (most likely aluminium ones) and lower receiver of course is separate chunk etc,
and handguards have 3-6-9-12 full length rails,
^this^ sort of build is sturdy as fuck and considered pretty expensive even in the amreeka for most casual civilians,

so don't get deceived by looks, it's not bad at all,
besides AR-15 basic design is more than 60 years old now, what more do you expect from a design this old...you may do some new innovative stuff on basic design but for starters it would be wiser to stick to the basics...and even in basics they're giving much refined package than some vanilla M16-ish build, so yeah...

What stops from Army conducting trials of this weapons from Indian Companies and present a comprehensive report? Still I don't how a rifle is evaluated in Army and does they release any paper regarding this?

With so much goal post shifted we have 5.56x30 mm , 5.56x45 mm, 7.62x39mm and 7.62x51mm. End result either a good product with wrong caliber ( JVPC) or correct caliber with not satisfied the army (TAR).

After Kargil to till now we played all games with rifles but still could not do jackshit with small arms. Now with AK-203 deal is in hanging out due to war. What we are going to do?

The scapegoats are Jawans who will fight with INSAS with no scope and poor BPJ and Helmets while army not ready to spend the money to upgrade them but return it back to Ministry.

They conduct trials of weapons from all around the globe including India, AFAIK SSS Defence Saber series is under trials for the Sniper Requirement too. The AK203 is MODs Decision uska bill Army pe phad ke kuch nhi milega. MOD Canceled the Carbine deal too with the Caracal.

true ak203 deal has much politics attached to it..dont think army can scuttle it even if they want to now....unless merica puts some more pressure on us

US 6th gen fighter NGAD will have the radar cross section of a single BB pellet.

dang that is too smol, have they make some radar transparent material ?? :fyeah: :fyeah:

Article is too misleading.
What band of radar is used as reference, what is angle of incidence if radar waves w.r.t. the body of aircraft, what is the direction of of incoming radar waves, etc. A lot of question need to be answered before making such statement.
