Are we sure the number is 200? AFAIK it was never disclosed the number of drones ordered.A Close Look At Idea Forge VTOL Switch UAV Which Indian Army Acquired In A $20 Million Contract For 200 Numbers For LAC Region.
BTW, is there a dedicated thread for drones? we should have one
A very good development.Finally
News not confirmed, just take this as a joke, though suddenly realising you need NLOS missile, phele yaad nhi aaya, drdo ko mauka toh deteHelina, sant gya bhar me ham karenge import aur license production

I understand it might be under emergency purchase powers given by GOIMust be an emergency purchase...... Through special purchase power
I Think its cheaperI understand it might be under emergency purchase powers given by GOI
but why didnt they realise the need of such system before and pushed for domestic development with our own agencies
It is expensive to build, it is also expensive to run: it can consume 50% of electricity power for middle size city for a few minutes test. What's the reason ? Is it too expensive ?
That depends what level of wind tunnel you are talking about.Or we don't have expertise to build wind tunnel ?
Items to do it are in place:A very good development.
Seeing the success of Turkish armed drones, a question that begged an answer was why India in spite of being ahead of Turkey in aerospace technology did not have an indigenous analogue.
Of course in all fairness the Turks had ready access to the necessary components needed for such a system. Being part of NATO, the European Union and US supply line proved very valuable. I seriously doubt whether the imported share of components in Turkish drones will be below 50% in value terms.
Ours is a more go alone approach. Even though India also presently imports components to a significant degree, I believe that our import dependence is not as great as Turkey.
The next step forward should be an indigenous equivalent of the American Sea Guardian drones. These have great utility value in peace time as well as in a war situation. Being unmanned and capable of operating for long periods >24 hours they can scan large swathes of the oceans without putting human pilots at risk. They will greatly reduce the workload on the very capable P8i aircraft enabling savings in fuel as an first benefit. The sensors on the indigenous drone equivalent will be very important and we should try to at least match the capabilities of the US sensor package. An large fleet of such hi tech indigenous drones will at the very least make it very difficult for Pakistan to replicate the methodology of the Mumbai attacks wherein an fishing boat with the terrorists managed to breach our coastal defences and land near Mumbai.
This is putting it very modestly. An indigenous Sea Guardian equivalent drone fleet will seriously hamper the free movement of Pakistani Navy vessels because we will have timely intelligence on their locations and will help us to initiate counter measures.
It will also undoubtedly help us in monitoring the movement of the PLA Navy in the Indian Ocean region.
Basically F-22 with better A2G capabilities.Imo
He might've said that after CCS approval normally it takes 4 years to rollout had drdo not done some work using it's own fund from 2022 it would've taken 4 years Ie. 2026 to rollout
But it did work using it's own fund so 2024 is the rollout
Much more advanced than F-22 in terms of technology and capabilities.Basically F-22 with better A2G capabilities.
