A very good development.
Seeing the success of Turkish armed drones, a question that begged an answer was why India in spite of being ahead of Turkey in aerospace technology did not have an indigenous analogue.

Of course in all fairness the Turks had ready access to the necessary components needed for such a system. Being part of NATO, the European Union and US supply line proved very valuable. I seriously doubt whether the imported share of components in Turkish drones will be below 50% in value terms.

Ours is a more go alone approach. Even though India also presently imports components to a significant degree, I believe that our import dependence is not as great as Turkey.

The next step forward should be an indigenous equivalent of the American Sea Guardian drones. These have great utility value in peace time as well as in a war situation. Being unmanned and capable of operating for long periods >24 hours they can scan large swathes of the oceans without putting human pilots at risk. They will greatly reduce the workload on the very capable P8i aircraft enabling savings in fuel as an first benefit. The sensors on the indigenous drone equivalent will be very important and we should try to at least match the capabilities of the US sensor package. An large fleet of such hi tech indigenous drones will at the very least make it very difficult for Pakistan to replicate the methodology of the Mumbai attacks wherein an fishing boat with the terrorists managed to breach our coastal defences and land near Mumbai.

This is putting it very modestly. An indigenous Sea Guardian equivalent drone fleet will seriously hamper the free movement of Pakistani Navy vessels because we will have timely intelligence on their locations and will help us to initiate counter measures.

It will also undoubtedly help us in monitoring the movement of the PLA Navy in the Indian Ocean region.

News not confirmed, just take this as a joke, though suddenly realising you need NLOS missile, phele yaad nhi aaya, drdo ko mauka toh dete

IAF be like- Arre bhaiya hum toh naam hi nahi sune the NLOS missile ka, abhi abhi pta lga h ki mast cheez h, pta hota toh hum phele hi DRDO ko NLOS missile banane ko bol dete, kher koi na ab nhi h toh hum thoda emergency purchase kar lete h. Iske baad aga mood bna toh 5 th gen spike er2 bhi le lenge thoda sa, HELINA toh 3rd gen hi rhe gya bas, kya kijiyega. Dekhiye ab Rudra helicopter pe kya mount kijiye, chota helicopter h na, hum toh bade Russian helicopter m mount karenge, hum bta rhe h ye electronic warfare suit tagde mi17 par acha nhi lgta, hum toh Sher ki tarah jaayenge yudhshetra m Bina kisi dhaal k, chaliye ab chalte h, tata byee byee.

That's almost ~76 lakhs a piece without going into the tax debate.

How much would a drone with similar specs cost if we take the import route?

I understand it might be under emergency purchase powers given by GOI

Does anyone know why Tapas is using a Piston engine when it can use a Turboprop engine (Shakti engine used in Dhruv) ? It will solve its power issues.

What's the reason ? Is it too expensive ?
It is expensive to build, it is also expensive to run: it can consume 50% of electricity power for middle size city for a few minutes test.

Or we don't have expertise to build wind tunnel ?
That depends what level of wind tunnel you are talking about.

More importantly, for those new newbies, they don't know what kind of win tunnel they need specifically. They will only be able to raise their request when they face the problem. So it takes quite a long time to develop a full series facility.

Items to do it are in place:

1> Engine: Do-228's turboprop unit.
2> Airframe: ADE's new twin boom design or enhanced Rustom-2 design.
3> EO Payload: DRDO/ Tonbo.
4> SDR and secure comms: BEL / Israel
5> SAR/ ISAR payload: DRDO
6> Sonobuoy: No idea.
7> ATOL: ADE Proven
8> Ground control station: ADE Proven
9> Satcom: ADE Proven

Imo
He might've said that after CCS approval normally it takes 4 years to rollout had drdo not done some work using it's own fund from 2022 it would've taken 4 years Ie. 2026 to rollout
But it did work using it's own fund so 2024 is the rollout
Basically F-22 with better A2G capabilities.
