The deal for M777 howitzers under the FMS route has been in process since 2008 and has seen several ups and downs, including the possibility of being scrapped. The contract was revived last year by the Modi government under a new deal that included a Make in India component.

For a moment I thought this was a political thread and you sounded like Akhilesh Bhai.
The Light Howitzer deal was initiated in 2008. MMRCA tender in 2007.

US India best friends!!!!! It was the 'pivot to Asia' which brings them closer to India, not some heart-felt friendship. Rest of the bonhomie was just business to sell nuclear reactors.
Still you can't deny two things 1. M777 choose by upa, 2. Indigenous under development. and the main downs is price. Since it a forum on military, politis comes first and last and in middle topic., and since its a indian forum, politics comes every were. Its not so easy to talk about iphone with out saying a word apple in a forum.
what is the connection between Light Howitzer deal and mmrca.
First of all, india needed sanctions lifted, nuclear reactors is the last ting in picture. selling NR depends on NSG membership and also its more related to politics. It was not the 'pivot to Asia' which brings them closer to India but afgan issue, pakistan distrust, and indian market. like you said ''just business'' and 'pivot to Asia' not good for business.
For your knowledge, military purchase mainly depends on politics.

There was a serious project on a 125mm smoothbore based on atags breech and barrel mechanism with some new recoil system.

Was happy when I saw it and then all became sad 😭
