Don't fall for any Chinese nincompoop logic here. The person was giving the logic that Byraktar crashes occurred in real war scenario and asking me how many R-1 crashed in such a scene. All this while leaving aside the fact that R-1 completed 65 tests flights.
Or you can tell us how many times R-1 flied in such a scene?
And why are you bring up 65 tests flights, are you suggesting that Turkey drone didn't do test flight?

Interesting fact here. Turkish Byraktar drones are getting shot at by SA-18 which has the maximum flight altitude of 11500 feet. It just bring the fact out that either the surveillance payload it was carrying is not upto the level, or it can't sustain the flight altitude of 27000 feet as advertised.

But hey, Turkey is drone super power.
Funny, 27000 feet is the service ceiling, 18000 feet is the operational flight altitude, doesn't mean the drone always fly at these altitudes. The actual flight altitude in each mission will be decided by not only the weapons and detect equipment, but also the battle field environment.

Excalibur has laser terminal guidance too. The budgeted amount is around $20k per round, which sounds rather ambitiously low, though numbers are quite impressive - ideally they would induct other types of smart artillery rounds also, so you coul eventually be looking at something like 100k (IMO) smart rounds in inventory.

Why can't IA tone down its requirements to support pvt domestic industry and induct ATAGS ? It is this attitude which is costing us dear ! Induct 16T ATAGS and meanwhile *WORK WITH KALYANI* to reduce it to 14T for future editions . But no, our Top Brass babus want the perfect shit straight away !
When you have two neighbors like Pakis and Cheenis, you can't tone down on specs. IA could hand held industries, but can't tone down on their requirements. So whether you want top class shit or downgraded shit depends on the theatre of war you would be fighting. During Kargil planning, Mushi has kept Bofors out of equation. But Bofors performed exceptionally well on those heights. So trimming down on requirements is out of question here.

Possibility of trimming down the weight from 18T to 16T was put forward by BF only. But did they carried it out in their prototype? As far as I know, NO.
On other hand IA has accepted this weight class and already moved forward with RFP for 20T hauling tractor. So you can't blame them squarely on this.

Nope like krasnopol, Terminally guided they need target to be illuminated by some means like laser. Excalibur is GPS. Well some are saying it will be an Indian solution. I haven't seen any such product from Indian companies though. Not sure yet
A guidance kit is in development by DRDO and OFB. But this fund allocation is not for development purpose.
