not convinced that a traditional cruise missile can be used for this purpose, given that neither LOAL nor LOBL cannot happen at such long distances. there needs to be a target confirmation and relay system in between to identify the target in battlefield clutter that would exist in a traditional military to military scenario.

if we are to take this assumption forward, then deployment from CATS alpha and CATS hunter combination makes more sense perhaps.

Why is LOAL not possible? It happens in CBU-105. The mechanzied column to be targeted can be tracked by ISTAR aircraft or drones or even SAR-mode fighter jets, all this while providing mid-course updates to the cruise missiles carrying MLPGM to the general area where the targets are. Once there, it should be similar to a CBU-105.
.
It does make sense to have drone swarms armed with EFP warheads that can execute a similar mission.
.
Seriously ?

There you have the SMART which is a high supersonic ballistic missile carrying and launching a torpedo which in the first place is never meant to fly that too in supersonic speeds ( reminds me will need to make a infographic on how it is deployed someday )
If one can do that whats stopping one from launching miniature missiles from a mother ballistic missile

IIR seeker blinded by air friction ? If thats the case all ATGMs & AAMs & guided munitions with IIR seekersr is a wasted effort
Lack of control authority by control surfaces ? If so wont wont the designers be the first to be concerned about it ?
When a weapon system is designed every possible factor is taken into consideration , 99% of which even we cannot fathom. They are professionals we are not
Calm down dude, we aren't casting aspersions on the existence of MLPGM, just trying to piece together info from what we know so far. Obviously DRDO is thinking of everything when designing it, but they haven't really released a statement on which missile will carry MLPGM, right?

Because if its meant to be carried in a Ballistic missile, its speed on arrival at target would be pretty high (unless a retro-thruster is used) and at such high speeds:-
1) Its IIR seeker would be blinded due to friction heating at its nose
2) Its control surfaces wouldn't have enough control authority to change its trajectory from a steep dive approach to a level flight so that its side-pointing shaped-charge can act on the top of the tank like a TOW-2B.
Look above. I had specifically stated that unless there are retro-thrusters on the mother missile, the speed and lack of control authority would manifest itself. I was thinking of SMART when I said "retro-thrusters." Without retro-thrusters, air friction would raise the temperature of the nose of any MLPGM separating at Mach 5 to >1000 degrees. Don't think IIR seekers of missiles like ASRAAM would work in that condition (do correct me if I am wrong on that). So the pre-requisite for MLPGM being used in ballistic missiles is retro-thruster on ballistic missile.
.
But the thing that actually confused me regarding MLPGM is the side-looking shaped-charge. If its being carried by a ballistic missile, then it should be ideal to go for a top-attack mode, right? Why would the MLPGM lose all that altitude and then start searching for targets while flying level like a TOW 2B? Isn't it better to look at targets from above? Then came news that they are testing it from a drone. All this made me think maybe they are planning to use them on Cruise Missiles.
.
BTW, what do you estimate would be the range of MLPGM after its separated from the mother missile?
