How is MRPKS different from the Guided Pinaka ?
Medium Range Precision Kill System (MRPKS) is under development rocket system for the Indian army.
The current rocket systems held in the inventory of Indian army cannot be employed with precision in mountainous terrain. 214 mm pinaka and 300mm Smerch MRLS are based on 8*8 and 10*10 TATRA Vehicle configurations respectively. The limited development of road infrastructure in the mountains result s in turning circle diameter (TCD) restrictions. As a result the smerch & pinaka systems have limited usage in Mountainous terrain.
The MRPKS is an indigenous weapon system which is being developed to be mounted on 4*4 in-service vehicles (2.5ton) and hence can be effectively employed in mountainous terrain. The system is configured to have single / double pods able to fire a cassette of 24 rockets each. The launcher would be able to operate in autonomous mode with; long range communication. The ammunition being developed for the weapon system is high precision, medium range rocket having a range of 25km and accuracy of upto 2m at the target end. The accuracy is achieved by an onboard guidance system & a passive IR terminal guidance. The ammunition being a fire & forget rocket will ensure greater efficiency of engagements with precision s like capability being available to own forces
It is proposed to be a vertical launcher, giving a 360 degree employment capability, As also posing no crest clearance issues in hills.

This is a fake replica of Su-30MKI, although it mimics only the frontal part. These are being used to spoof our jets lying in hardened shelters or hangers to enemy satellites.

I think this kind of mimic was also noticed in Jodhpur AFS last year if I remember.
No ways ..this is not the replica SU 30...atleast it should look like SU 30....

So this is not a full-size replica, only the frontal section. The intent is to mimic the aircraft inside the hanger/HAS, so just the nose sticking out will do.

For example, this is a real Su-30MKI in HAS of Sirsa AFS

Defensive mode : It has a jacket round it which turns into sharpnels upon burst which increases its lethality radius.
Offensive mode : It doesn't have the jacket around it which makes the lethality radius less then defensive mode.

Adding further that Offensive mode has more concussive effect and significantly less shrapnel which is important when you are throwing a grenade in CQB or when you are not behind a prepared defensive position. Large shrapnel density can lead to friendly fire or ricocheting shrapnel hitting your buddies or self. Moreover, in CQB in enclosed spaces, such as a building, concussive effect can be lethal as the pressure waves bounce of the walls of a room and resonate. This doesn't usually happen out in an open field.
.
On the other hand, when you are in a prepared defensive position like a slit trench, bunker, sangar or foxhole and the enemy is charging you (meaning enemy is out in the open), its preferable to toss a grenade with maximum lethal radius and maximum shrapnel. Why because your buddies are also behind prepared defences and not in the open and so direct or ricocheting shrapnel will only find the enemy, no chance of friendly fire.

In what way would it be used? I am assuming to make adversary attack empty hardened shelters thinking the replicas are real planes, while the real planes are probably using highways or civilian airstrips?
