And ya I’m not joking, no point giving haha reacts, the so called 5th gen ATGMs also use the same tech that is the basis of 3rd gen with some other features added to increase effectiveness.
bro 3rd and 4th gen are almost same, with only range and little seeker improvement.

but it seems 5th gen have significant weight improvement, seeker and penetration along with range
this is french MMP, 5th gen which was offered to us

Increasing weight and range can’t make it next generation.
bro compare it ( MMP ) with spike, mpatgm and other atgms, the weight and range improvements outclass other competitors. also the seeker imaging can be directly seen by the user, which i guess no their atgms have.

so its easily a gen/cycle ahead of all other competitors!

Do elaborate so the rest of us also know
1st gen used to be manually controlled like a loitering munition
2nd gen were wire guided and/or laser guided
3rd gen were fire and forget ATGMs using Imaging Infrared (IIR) seeker.

Now...
4th gen are those 3rd gen ATGMs which are standoff in range.
5th gen use passive dual band seeker (uncooled IR and coloured TV) instead of IIR on ATGMs.

Hence 5th gen is just a marketing gimmick for a 3rd gen ATGM with a seeker upgrade (and other small or big changes as well) fundamentally it’s also a fire and forget weapon.

being better won’t make you next generation, like US Army’s NGSW (Next Generation Squad Weapon) is just an ordinary assault rifle which only looks different and expensive than a normal gun and uses innovative ammunitions depending on the bidders. Will that make the gun next generation? No!

Earlier it were manual loading, bolt action, then semi auto then select fire. NGSW is also going to be a select fire weapon.

Generation means a fundamental change in the way the system works.

SANT Missile is a 4th gen missile so to say, and if used with passive dual band seeker in man portable configuration it becomes 5th gen.

u r right that 3rd gen ATGM serves as base model for all other gen and i fell for the so called "seeker improvement" in MMP.

the difference in first 3 gen is seeker
for 4th, it was range ( very little seeker improvement )

here we see that fundamental parameter changes from seeker to range

the only reason i quote MMP is due to the fact that there is significant weight and range(compared to others), here weight is the parameter.

otherwise u r right

Buddy the thing is change in design philosophy , earlier system were bulky and less situational aware .

Things common among all 5th gen Missile .

Uncooled ir sensor (to cut weight ) , with imaging sensor which are swappable before launch . Both don't work simultaneously .

Second is better sensor at command post .

Third is addition of imu in Missile to give better info of Missile and it's trajectory and changing it while launching .

Basically customized launch parameters .

Last one is huge gain in range , not because of change in fuel mix only but also in extra space for more fuel to be carried

DRDO successfully flight-tests indigenously developed MPATGM for minimum range

Posted On: 21 JUL 2021 5:19PM by PIB Delhi

  • Low weight, fire and forget Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile
  • Miniaturised Infrared Imaging seeker
  • Major boost to Army and AatmaNirbhar Bharat
  • Raksha Mantri congratulates DRDO

In a major boost towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat and strengthening of Indian Army, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested indigenously developed low weight, fire and forget Man Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM) on July 21, 2021. The missile was launched from a man portable launcher integrated with thermal site and the target was mimicking a tank. The missile hit the target in direct attack mode and destroyed it with precision. The test has validated the minimum range successfully. All the mission objectives were met. The missile has already been successfully flight tested for the maximum range.

The missile is incorporated with state-of-the-art Miniaturized Infrared Imaging Seeker along with advanced avionics. The test brings the development of indigenous third generation man portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile close to completion.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and the Industry for the successful test. Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team for the successful test.

This would make Rudra happy.. Was always talking about how he wants to hit a tank at 200 metre.. 🙂 This looks not more than 200 m to me..

MMP's 4km range only seems to be possible coz the missile's "brain" is transfered to MMP's CBU itself. Result? Weight loss being traded with increased range and better warhead.

@NeXoft007 do the mrsam and lrsam of India too have that bulky booster too or without that .

As seen in video or IA mrsam no booster is there .

And how much range is without that booster .

Will Akash ng will have that booster in future or not possible , can. A vls version of akash is possible
