MPATGM is equivalent to Spike MR in all aspects. so this enough for army's needs. further improvement can be made and be elevated to Spike LR stage. hopefully army accepts it without any lunar trials.

what issue?
MPATGM is clean slate design, which started after seeker issues were sorted by DRDO.

first test in September 2018.

seeker issues were earlier for nag in 2016-17, which are sorted now.

Tonbo seeker and CLU is being used in BDLs own ATGM project from their own funds called Amogha.
Does anyone know which CLU is being used for DRDO MPATGM?

MPATGM is only a 3rd generation ATGM, Spike family is 4th/5th generation ATGMs. Still quite a way to go before comparing them.

i didn't know that MPATGM design started after finalizing NAG.
since the last test was in 2019, i had presumed that the issue was with seeker.

4th gen and 5th gen are just marketing gimmicks, those also come under 3rd gen ATGM category.

And ya I’m not joking, no point giving haha reacts, the so called 5th gen ATGMs also use the same tech that is the basis of 3rd gen with some other features added to increase effectiveness and then marketted as next gen bakchodi. It’s like calling JF-17 Block-3 a 6th gen aircraft.

• Miniaturised Infrared Imaging seeker
• Major boost to Army and AatmaNirbhar Bharat
• Raksha Mantri congratulates DRDO

In a major boost towards AatmaNirbhar Bharat and strengthening of Indian Army, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight-tested indigenously developed low weight, fire and forget Man Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM) on July 21, 2021. The missile was launched from a man portable launcher integrated with thermal site and the target was mimicking a tank. The missile hit the target in direct attack mode and destroyed it with precision. The test has validated the minimum range successfully. All the mission objectives were met. The missile has already been successfully flight tested for the maximum range.


The missile is incorporated with state-of-the-art Miniaturized Infrared Imaging Seeker along with advanced avionics. The test brings the development of indigenous third generation man portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile close to completion.


Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and the Industry for the successful test. Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated the team for the successful test.
