Yes thinking about the same. There was a project to increase the 122 mm rocket range from 25-30 km to 45 km.

Had never heard that they wanted to increase Pinaka 1 from 39 km to 45 km.
Although improved propellant might increase the range from 39 to 45 km.

But increasing the range of 122 mm rocket was a major project.

Now question is that does the improved 122mm rocket have Pinka style launcher?
If you calculate a single pod that consists of 2x3 combination 214 mm rocket can be configured for 3x5 combination of 122 mm rocket.

And, I was wrong. There is indeed a project to enhance the range of Pinaka 1 to 45 km.

I‘ve written this answer on the SF thread , lack of easy access of transport aircrafts to SF leading to less amount training time for them as they are at the mercy of the IAF in that regard.
It was of my opinion of one of the reasons for this other tha turf war and tussels was mainly the shortage of C17 size aircraft leading to the usage of C130J aircraft mainly meant for SF use(ones with EO Pod and midair refuelling capabilities and other additional equipment) to make up for this shortage.
Now we know that C17 production line has shut down and second hand opportunities are rare, no other aircraft in production exists presently that can carry T90 tanks other than Chinese Y 20 aircraft which they built with Ukrainian help.
Isn’t it prudent for HAL to partner with companies like Embraer and Antonov who’d possibly be willing to help design an aircraft about the Y 20 class to relieve the C17 from ferrying t 90s alone and augment the logistics capabilities of the IAF.
Are HAL projects like RTA and NALs SARAS really required over a strategic lifter like that could replace the IL 76 and augment C17?
There could be an export market too with countries wanting to replace IL 76 fleets or want an aircraft in between the capacity of A400 and C17 depending on which compamy helps us.
I just don't think we need that lift capacity once the infra is built up and OR is used in better way.....we still need them for situations that just come up as emergencies but Indian threats are mostly North and NE, so proper positioning with Railway should put everything in 24 hour window.....not the primary reason for transport fleet to carry tanks....one or two tanks rarely make a difference....its more of supplies and troops that need transports

Posted On: 25 JUN 2021 6:46PM by PIB Delhi

Continuing the development of Artillery Rocket Systems, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired extended range version of indigenously developed Pinaka rocket from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) on 24th and 25th June 2021 at Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.

Twenty-five Enhanced Pinaka Rockets were launched in quick succession against targets at different ranges. All the mission objectives were met during the launches. The enhanced range version of Pinaka Rocket System can destroy targets at distances up to 45 kms.

All the flight articles were tracked by Range instruments including Telemetry, Radar and Electro Optical Tracking System deployed by ITR & Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE).

The rocket system has been developed jointly by Pune based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) with manufacturing support from M/s Economic Explosives Limited, Nagpur. The development of Enhanced Pinaka system was taken up to achieve longer range performance.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and the Industry on the successful launch of Enhanced Pinaka Rockets. Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy commended the efforts of the teams involved in the successful trials.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired enhanced range versions of indigenously developed 122mm Caliber Rocket from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) on June 25, 2021 at Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. Four enhanced range version of 122mm rockets were test fired with full instrumentation and they met the complete mission objectives. These rockets have been developed for Army applications and can destroy targets up to 40 km.

All the flight articles were tracked by Range instruments, including Telemetry, Radar and Electro Optical Tracking System deployed by ITR and Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE).

The rocket systems have been developed jointly by Pune-based Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) with manufacturing support from M/s Economic Explosives Limited, Nagpur. This enhanced rocket system would replace the existing 122mm Grad rockets.
