Four regiments of Brahmos are currently operational with Indian army .

1 861st regiment with 40th Artillery division .
2 881at regiment with 41st Artillery division.
3. 1889th regiment with 42 nd artillery division.
4. Fourth regiment is under Eastern command .

The artillery divisions are part of the strike corps. So Brahmos usage comes under the authority of strike Corps commanders .

The fifth regiment will go the 17 Mountain strike corps headquarted at Panagarh with 59 mountain division and 72nd Mountain division.

Is it possible to convert the existing Bmos to ER version ?

With the implementation of waypoints , the only thing misding in Bmos is TERCOM , which may be impossible because of the high speed of the missile .

Waypoints nav was earlier there too. This new one sports a more comprehensive version wherein the no of waypoints has increased .

Yes it can be with slight modifications , and it can travel at Mach 5 with new engine , which is currently under development .

From the stables of Hemant Kumar Rout . He's as good as it gets.

Some important points.

1. This was a user trial. The missile was chosen randomly from the production lot and was tested by Army . DRDO extended them support .

2. The author has mentioned that the missile range had been increased to 450 km from 290 km.

3. ANI had earlier reported that the Brahmos tested today had a range in excess of 400 + km .

So putting 2+2 together, we can say confidently that the extended range Brahmos is now in series production . It has either been inducted already and is in operational service since Hemant says that this was a user trial . OR this test will pave the way for entry into operational service .

And not a fly flies undetected at ITR or Kalam Island without Hemant knowing it . So this is credible news. Mr Philip of The Print isnt correct when he says that work is going on the 400 km range missile is going and it will enter service soon
. Also he says that a 1500 km range variant of Brahmos will be developed. I closely follow Russian missile developement . I read up Izvestia and other Russian outlets . Plus follow Russian posters. Russia already has developed the 800 km range Oniks M. However there is no news or olans for a 1500 km ranged Onyx. There's a limit to what you can do on an existing airframe and by tinkering with the original engine design .

No matter what you do, you can't transform a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz into a BMW M5 competition. Or make a Maruti 800 beat a Volkswagen Polo GTI . The analogy isn't exactly correct but this is what I can think of now.

All in all a great news as far as today's test is concerned.
