Today, Another successful test fire of anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile conducted by Indian Navy in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Indian Navy has tested a Brahmos missile in Andaman and Nicobar islands .
The missile hit its target with metric precision.


So the only thing remaining is the test of an air launched Brahmos from a Su-30MKI.

Theres a great news fellas.

Work has earnestly started on developing a family of expendable air launched swarm drones which will swamp saturate and destroy elements of enemy IADS. Sam radars and asr and early warning radars.

Work is going on a mission mode to develope the system within a timeframe of 4 years. IAF is onboard. HAL will be the main integrator . Two startups are also being roped in. I reckon Sq ldr Joshi's startup is one of the two. The program is being executed under the CATS project.

This project envisages a Jaguar Darin 3 carrying four pods each with six drones for a total of 24 expendable drones.

There's also plan for a VHALE drone with s service ceiling of 70000+ ft which will act as relay and mothership from where the drones can be controlled once they are in hostile airspace .

The only thing that may throw a spanner in the works and foil the plans is the detoriation in the thrust levels of the Adour engines on board the Jags. Had the Jags been reengined which in itself would have been prohibitively cost expensive, Jags could have been used to the hilt.

But we can always modify the system to interface and work with Su-30MKI. There is no better platform to lug these air launched drones around than the Sukhois.

Yes Rafales are also there but the small lateral separation between the hdps limits the volume of missiles and drop tanks that can be simultaneously carried .

Work is already going on counter swarm drone systems. Both hardkill and softkill.


The standoff with the China has afforded us show many opportunities and spurred our South Block mandarins into action. I hope the standoff continues . Without these standoff, the outlay for next defense budget would definitely have been reduced by a sizeable amount. Worse, there wouldn't have been this newfound sense of urgency that we are seeing now at all levels of the bureaucracy .

According to Mr Rajat Pandit , today's missile was launched from a destroyer.

INS Ranvijay test launched the Brahmos today . The missile hit its designated target in the Bay of Bengal after carrying out complex manoeuvres .

This test also marks the operationalisation of the Brahmos ER in the Indian Navy . The 450 km range variant also has some tricks in its sleeve like an increased no of waypoint navigation and an increase in the scope of maneuvers . To defeat advanced area defense and point defense anti ship missile missiles and cows.

Brahmos is being continually improved and is always a step ahead of potential enemy countermeasures.

A Su-30MKI loaded for both A2A and A2G missions on an CAP somewhere in the Himalayas.

It's carrying two R-73/K-74 , two R-27ER , a 450 kg HSLDB and a Litening 3/4I LDP.

The Alamos being carried are the long burn 130+ km range variants.

Whether they have the usual SARH heads or the newer active heads can't be discerned . IAF has got stocks of the newer active homing variants of the R-27 too.

True, defence is receiving priority status because of the Indo-China confrontation.
But I don't think we should wish for the stalemate to continue.
Because there is an economic cost to the forward deployment of tens of thousands of troops and their associated equipment.

Presently the Chinese economy is bigger than us. Maybe their staying power could be more than us.

The engine problem (under powered) of the Jaguar fleet is an very relevant issue if we want them to remain operational for another decade or so.

Why cannot we try to install an indigenous engine in the Jaguar.
We don't need an high power engine of 80kn plus like the Kaveri engine.
The HTFE engine under development with thrust 25kn is promising.
We can scale it up a bit and accelerate the program by going into mission mode.
Sufficient funds should be released without delay for the program.

Can we hope for a certified 25kn plus engine in 5 years which will be suitable for the Jaguar re-engining.

from a doctrine perspective, when the country’s doctrine is defensive in nature, perhaps equal weightage should be given to military drone tech suitable for both defensive and offensive doctrines.

At this point in time majority of action is happening in CFV, infiltration & CASO , ideally there should be parallel work on finding solutions of these scenarios as well.

these Jaguar based solutions will be used only when $hit hits the fan, and our adversaries have adopted tactics where they their action stays below the threshold level. So solutions are also required to handle the current threat level.

One good thing is that navy has silently developed the underwater drones they need, in past 4 y
