In final stages of ordering 155/52 self-propelled gun: Parrikar
Indian army has not had a new 155mm artillery gun inducted since the Bofors scandal of 1987. 'Dhanush', also known as 'desi Bofors', is indigenously-developed 155mm gun with 45 calibre having advanced features with a strike range of 38 km. The towed howitzer 'Dhanush' has larger range than 27-km of the imported Bofors.

Also, the 'Pinaka' rocket, which used as an area destruction weapon that can virtually decimate 900 square meter of area, has been tested for 65 km range today, he said.
Any news on this? Is this Mk2 ?

If you notice closely both guns are slightly different, the one on the left is from Bharat Forge with a Mercedes APU & also has an Autoloader sourced from ELBIT in Israel, the one on the Right is from Tata Motors and uses a Domestic APU.
The final Production Gun will incorporate elements of both!

With ATAGS they seem to have done away with the loading crane as was on the Bofors/Dhanush. Does it affect the burst firing mode. Why has this been changed? Any ideas...
crane exists, posted in red, check the attachment.

i wish they have revolver type of chamber on cranes, if both sides had these revolving type chambers each with 6 ammon them so that they can fire MRSI in intense mode.

Is that the case? I was under the impression that one of them will be selected for the final design and DRDO and army will persist with that.

Of course, minor elements from one can be incorporated but is it really possible to "merge" the two guns into one final design? Wouldn't it require a whole series of tests and validations trials to be done all over again?

It weighs 16 tonnes. Couldn't we have used titanium like in howitzers to reduce the weight?

Yes, we can do so in future.
currently no - reasons
1 - Cost will increase, for massive requirement of say around 2000 guns that a big factor.
2 - Titanium is expensive and currently we have only 1 (new plant) which is currently sufficient to provide for less that 50% of our total needs, we still import titanium from russian, china and japan.

Reason of 16 ton weight is 1 APU, 155/55 barrel length and capacity to fire 6 rounds quickly, bofors has capacity for only 3 rounds and is 155/39 and weights 11.5 tons..
