Don't beg India for power: Hafiz Saeed to Pakistan

LAHORE: Pakistan should not buy electricity from India, Jamaat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed has told the government, days after PM Nawaz Sharif directed his power minister to visit India to address the severe energy crisis facing the country.

"India is producing electricity on Pakistani rivers and offering the same to us to buy. Don't our rulers understand this basic point?" Saeed, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, asked while addressing an 'Ummat Conference' at Sheikhupura, some 40 kilometres from here, on Sunday.

Saeed, who is carrying a $10 million bounty on his head declared by the US, has been freely moving and conducting his activities mostly in Punjab, a province of 90 million. "There is no need to beg India.., " Saeed, the former head of banned Lashkare-Taiba , added.

His warning to the Sharif government came in the wake of its proposed plan to buy electricity from India and China to cope with the current energy crisis.Finance minister Ishaq Dar had said India is ready to sell up to 2000 MW electricity to Pakistan and "we are seriously pondering to purchase electricity from India."

Is Pakistan on the point of no return in regards to energy? The population (and thus demand) is increasing faster than ever. Fossil fuels are a catch-22 situation in regards to pollution; Pak doesn't control its water supply, and nuclear power is not established on a wide scale yet.

Time to put solar panels across the nation.

I don't understand one thing. What stops India from putting out a bounty of Rs. 1000 crore on his, Lakhvi and Masood Azhar's head? The US frequently does, and so does India for wanted criminals. What stops India from asking for something similar for these mass murderers?

If Its about morality, R&AW or even the IB or even the MI can simply put out a non official hit bounty on their heads. Who'll prove it was India's doing?
