DFI members as all of you have noticed that we have moved to Vbulletin 4 - the next generation of software a whole new interface has popped up which is quite different from the old version 3
let me inform all members that its not a style change just that has taken place its more in the likes of upgrading your computer from windows XP to Windows 7
As a result many of you might find it difficult to use old features that have so much been a part of us , we assure you your experience of DFI only gets better with time we do not take a step backwards you will be amazed to know that this new software version gives you much more than the old one we will be upgrading all the features one by one.


THIS THREAD IS CREATED SO THAT THE DFI TEAM can inform all of you about how to use all the features of the software the dfi staff will make tutorials on various important features on DFI and how you can use them to your advantage
THE THREAD WILL BE UPDATED WITH NEW TUTORIALS AS FEATURES ARE BEEN ADDED.

1.NEW VIDEO EMBED FEATURES

New Video Embed Features

Please take advantage of the new video embed feature introduced by vBulletin 4.

>Click on the icon in the Quick Reply, Edit Post, and Advanced Reply pages, enter the URL of the video in the prompt, and the system will embed it for you.

>The system supports a variety of video sharing sites, such as Hulu, YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Metacafe, Google, and Facebook.

>Alternatively, you may use the [video] bbcode. Simply wrap around the URL:

[videoxxx]http://your-video-url.com[/videoxxx]
do not put the xxx on the word video while using its for demo

2. Checking for New post replies and Threads

for checking of new posts and replies there are a number of ways each has their own advantage and settings


1> when ever any member creates a NEW THREAD then its instantly reported on the shoutbox please note the shoutbox lists only new threads created and not the replies to old thread unlike in the previous shoutbox.



2> when a member logs in he can check all NEW POSTS AND THREADS in the last 24 hours via the WHATS NEW on the tab bar



3>The DFI STATIX box is placed below the forum display it has fully powered AJAX feature and provides a great way to check for various parameters without refreshing the page , the dfi statix box auto refreshes every 60 seconds so that members can follow replies without any problem and not having to refresh page to check for new replies

>DFI STATIX provides a lot of tabbed features where you can check LATEST POST, HOTTEST THREAD, MOST VIEWED ,TOP FORUMS.LATEST BLOGS , LATEST COMMENTS,LATEST NEWS and all of these are very easy to navigate and fully ajax powered which auto updates itself as soon as its posted on the forum




4> DFI LIVE POSTS when selected from the TAB BAR takes you to a new page full with the latest replies and even preview of the reply it notifies any NEW THREAD , NEW POST REPLY to existing thread ANY NEW ARTICLE on the webpage in a auto refresh enabled<AJAX powered>mode the best part is it provides a preview right there and makes it easy for members ,

the DFILIVE POSTS takes you to the first post of a thread rather than the last to navigate to the latest reply just click on the LAST BUtton on the page navigation menu



5> in addition to that you can subscribe to individual threads,or posts like before and will be notified via pm or email as you choose from the user settings, the new DFI allows you to subscribe to entire forums by using the TICK button that shows but next to every forum section on the forum display pageright next to the tick you can subscribe to forum of your choice via the DFI RSS FEEDS which notifies you of any new post via the RSS feeds directly

DFI has set up its new website as the homepage where you get the latest news , articles and contents from the world of defence and strategy , the website uses a 3 way built in feature which has many facilities for the users on every post on the forum or the dfi blog you get a button PROMOTE TO ARTICLE if you want your article to be posted on the website just make use of the button , members any news you think deserve space on the homepage just make use of the button the DFI webpublisher group within the staff will make the necessary formatting and your article will be published .
in regard of this we welcome all self written articles by our members which will definitely find a top place on the website for a minimum of 7 days also we are looking to encourage other budding writers and some special journos to write for us
even some of the well written blogs can be published guys make use of your writing skills and come up what you think on various matters

the website contains categories as . amazing india , news, wow world ,pictures and history and culture other than the defence sub-sections you can post write article under any of these topics

the dfi website provides amazing features and news access we have direct feeds from DEFENCENEWS, REUTERS SOUTH ASIA ,TECH FORUMS , defence india , also widgets of top cricket score and other addons are provided to make it more appealing the feeds are updated directly we are also going to integrate the full DFI cross platform with twitter and facebook you can link your twitter and facebook account directly with your DFI happenings which provides a cross platform of your entire social life at one place .

the DEFENCE GALLERY WILL be placed soon and contain pictures also on the homepage which must make it more appealing.

ALL MEMBERS WILLING TO WRITE FOR DFI WEBSITE IN LONG TERM CAN CONTACT THE DFI MANAGEMENT W EHAVE PLANS SET UP FOR BUDDING WRITERS TO ENCOURAGE THEM AND PROVIDE THEM WITH INCENTIVES FOR THEIR EFFORTS

Vbulletin 4 has a great add on album feature make use of it and create your own military and non military albums and display it as thumbnails on forum home

go to >settings>my album > create new album > upload pictures

New: Micro-Comments Feature

Dear members,

Please take advantage of our new Micro-comments feature. Micro-comments are tiny posts within posts that are related to the post. Instead of one-liner posts that are either seeking clarification, or commenting on other posts, you can comment on the post itself. This helps reduce clutter, and broadens your forum experience.

To post a micro-comment for a post, look for the

button on its lower-left corner.

You will see a small text-box. It's small for a reason, so you could keep the micro-comments "micro".

Once posted, the micro-comment will appear like this:

General rules and guidelines apply with micro-comments, don't spam, stay away from insults or bickering.

When I click on the micro-comment icon, it gives a '\/' mark in green. I don't get a text box as such.
Do I need to change some settings somewhere?

Mobile browsers don't support AJAX, and this feature needs it.
