UPDATE: GECAS Buys 60 Airbus A320 Family Aircraft

By David Pearson

Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

FARNBOROUGH, England (Dow Jones)--Aircraft maker Airbus, a subsidiary of Franco-German aerospace group European Aeronautic Defence And Space Co. NV (EAD.FR), Monday said General Electric Co.'s (GE) aircraft leasing and financing unit has ordered 60 aircraft from its A320 family.

GE Capital Aviation Services has signed a "firm order for 60 additional A320 family aircraft," Airbus said in a statement. The A320 family of single aisle aircraft includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321.

Airbus didn't give a breakdown for the GECAS order by model, and the value of the contract wasn't disclosed. The list prices for Airbus A320 family aircraft range from $62.5 million for the smaller A318 to $95.5 million for the larger, longer-range A321. Airlines can negotiate substantial discounts for bulk orders.

GECAS has ordered a total of 327 A320 family aircraft, of which 99 are still to be delivered.

The order is a "further demonstration of the strong demand for the A320 family and underlines its attractiveness to leasing companies, who are returning to the market with full steam," Airbus Chief Executive Officer Tom Enders said in a statement.

A320 family aircraft are popular with low-cost and start-up airlines operating short to medium-range routes.

It was the second major order for Toulouse, France-based Airbus from an aircraft leasing company at the Farnborough International Air Show. Earlier in the day, Airbus signed a deal for 51 A320 family jets with Air Lease Corp, the newly formed leasing and financing company, that would worth up to $4.43 billion at list prices.

Airbus has already announced it will increase the production rate of its A320 jets to 38 a month in the autumn, and is considering a move that would raise it again, to a monthly rate of 38, some time next year.

UPDATE: Air Lease Corp Orders 51 Airbus A320 Family Aircraft

By David Pearson Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

FARNBOROUGH, England (Dow Jones)--Recently revived aviation leasing company Air Lease Corp. said Monday it has ordered 51 Airbus A320 family narrow-bodied aircraft.

The order includes 31 A320s and 20 A321-20s, Air Lease Corp. President and Chief Operating Officer John Plueger told a press conference at the Farnborough International Air Show.

On the basis of Airbus's price list, the order is potentially worth up to $4.43 billion. Airbus customers can usually obtain substantial discounts for bulk orders such as this one, however.

Airbus is a division of European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co NV (EAD.FR).

Air Lease Corp. was formed recently with the same management team as the failed International Lease Corp. under the leadership of Steve Udvar-Hazy. It is ALC's first order since it was reformed.

Deliveries will start in 2011, Plueger said. Air Lease Corp. is buying the latest generation of the A320 that will have new fuel-saving "sharklets"--wing-tip devices that offer increase payload-range performance.

Sukhoi agrees 161 SSJ100 deliveries at Farnborough air show

Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has clinched deals on as many as 161 Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft since the Farnborough International Air Show kicked off near London on July 19, the company's spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"In the last three days, the Superjet aircraft, which is put on open display at the air show, has been visited by representatives of 50 air companies, including Air France and Lufthansa," Olga Kayukova told RIA Novosti.

"In addition, two memorandums of intent have been signed with Thailand's Orient Thai Airlines and Gazpromavia," she said.

The Superjet 100 is a family of medium-haul passenger aircraft developed by Sukhoi in cooperation with U.S. and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell.

The aircraft is capable of carrying 75-95 passengers up to 4,500 kilometers.

Pearl Aircraft to buy 30 SuperJet planes from Sukhoi

22.07.2010, 05.01

FARNBOROUGH, July 22 (Itar-Tass) -- The company SuperJet International (49 percent of shares belong to Sukhoi) and the international leasing company Pearl Aircraft signed an agreement on Wednesday, July 21, for the supply of 30 Sukhoi SuperJet-100 passenger planes.

The agreement also includes an option for another 15 planes. The current catalogue price of 30 SuperJet plans is 900 million U.S. dollars.

The SuperJet-100 should replace Tu-132 planes now in operation. Initially, plane supplies were scheduled for the end of 2008.

The SuperJet, the first new Russian passenger plane over the past 20 years, is being created through unprecedentedly broad international cooperation that involves more than 30 major international aerospace companies, system and component suppliers.

Sukhoi SuperJet-100 integrates the world's best industry practices and solutions. All aircraft will be certified in accordance with both Russian and international requirements. SSJ100's technical and operational performance make the product fully marketable and capable of taking a solid share in the highly competitive global market. Thus, Sukhoi expects to sell 800 aircraft until the year 2024, while the global demand for the aircraft of this class totals 5,400. So far the company had secured 73 solid orders for the aircraft.

The SuperJet-100 was formerly referred to as the Russian Regional Jet, or "Sukhoi RRJ." The name was changed on 17 July 2006. The aircraft will be equipped with two Saturn/SNECMA PowerJet SaM146 turbofans.

The Superjet-100 is intended to compete against the Antonov An-148, Embraer E-Jets and the Bombardier CSeries programs. Pogosyan claims the SSJ will have 10-15 percent lower operation costs than its Embraer or Bombardier counterparts and its wider cabin will offer more comfort; at the catalogue price of 27.8 million dollars, it should also be cheaper by 18-22 percent. On the other hand, both Embraer and Bombardier offer much more comprehensive after-sales and maintenance network.

SuperJet-100 will in the future provide the basis for a whole family of planes, including transport and special purpose planes. However now the main goal is the certification of the plane and serial production of 60-70 planes annually.

The project is implemented by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company created in 2000. Experts say that the SuperJet-100 project will secure Russia's leadership on the market of regional planes. Sukhoi Civil Aircraft is a subsidiary of the famous Sukhoi combat aircraft manufacturer. It was created to implement the latter's civilian projects. The chief task of the company is to develop a regional Superjet-100 plane that will replace Tu-134 liners that are now in use.

The Sukhoi SuperJet-100 family consists of two types of aircraft of basic and increased flying ranges with the carrying capacity of 75 and 95 passengers respectively.

The company is trying to make the two types of plane as universal as possible in order to increase the number of potential buyers.

The design of the plane meets the requirements applicable in Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the West.

Pallam Raju was there. India could be the market for heavy lift aircraft with Boeing's Super Hercules program coming to a close. Also, a chance for some MMRCA contendors to impress (financially).

Virgin America Signs MOU for Up to 60 A320s
Jul 22, 2010
By Frank Jackman
FARNBOROUGH

Virgin America signed a memorandum of understanding for 40 firm and 20 option Airbus A320s July 22 at the Farnborough International Airshow. If the MOU is finalized, delivery of the firm aircraft would begin in 2013 and the option aircraft would arrive in 2017 and 2018. List price for the 40 firm aircraft is $3.3 billion, but Airbus COO John Leahy said Virgin America will not pay the catalog price.

An engine choice for the new aircraft will be announced when the order is finalized. The 28 A320 family aircraft currently operated by Virgin America are powered by CFM56-5Bs. When asked about possibly taking a re-engined A320, David Cush, president and CEO of Virgin America said his is a green airline and that he is hopeful Airbus will come out with an option that will improve fuel efficiency "and if they do, we will be first in line."

All of the new aircraft will be equipped with sharklets. Cush said the MOU is for A320s, but if the carrier chooses to upgrade some to A321s, the sharklets would give those aircraft transcontinental range.

In addition to the 10 A319s and 18 A320s currently operating, Virgin America plans to put 22 more purchased and leased A320s into service by the end of 2012. The new aircraft would bring Virgin America's Airbus fleet to 90. "Airbus will be the sole supplier for Virgin America for many years to come," Cush said.

Thai Airways International to order seven more A330s
21 July 2010

Thai Airways International (THAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for the purchase of seven more A330-300s. The aircraft will be delivered from the end of 2011 and will join an existing fleet of 20 A330-300s flying to destinations across the Asia-Pacific region.

The MOU was finalised today at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK by Captain Montree Jumrieng, THAI Managing Director of Technical Department and John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers.

"THAI has selected the A330-300 to meet our medium haul requirement. This will lead to improved efficiency as well as reducing the average age of our fleet. As our objective is to be a first choice airline, we would like to enhance our customer's experience with new aircraft and the best service available on board," said Capt. Montree Jumrieng. "Our fleet strategy aims to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by matching aircraft size to market demand, while working on fleet simplification in the long-term."

"We are extremely pleased to sign this MOU with one of our longest-standing customers and most experienced A330 operators," said John Leahy. "THAI's latest commitment once again underscores the A330's status as the most efficient mid-size widebody aircraft in-service today and the right aircraft right now for airlines across the globe."

The modern and efficient A330 is one of the most widely used widebody aircraft in service today. To date, Airbus has won more than 1,000 firm orders for the various versions of the aircraft. More than 700 A330s have already been delivered and the aircraft is currently flying with over 80 operators worldwide.
