Stone Pelting: CRPF To Procure Full-Body Protectors For Troops

In a bid to protect its men from injuries in turbulent conditions of Kashmir, CRPF has decided to introduce high-quality full-body protectors for its forces.
Ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8, the Valley has been witnessing violent protests, stone pelting that has injured more than 2,500 CRPF troops, reports TOI. So as to deal with the prevailing situation, the “full-body protectors” will shield the jawans from head to toe and shall be provided to the troops soon, said a senior official.
Due to the violent protests, many CRPF jawans had to either undergo surgeries on head, neck or face. With a surge in stone, pelting incidents security force reviewed the situation analyzing how many soldiers got injuries primarily on their neck, face, and legs.
Moreover, with the Valley set to welcome winters in the coming months, the top brass of the security force thinks that the jawans need to get a sense of safety.
The “full-body protectors”will be light in weight, and along with physical protection, they will also have special fire retardant, protective sheets for front and back pouches with trauma pads and high impact resistance rubber inserts. The outfit will include a sweat absorbing unbreakable soft plastic chest protector, elbow pad, shin guard, upper arm protector, shoulder pad which will secure both shoulder and neck, groin protector, forearm guard and thigh guard while head and face will be secured by helmets, reports TOI.
According to a senior official, “full-body protectors” were deployed earlier as well, however, they weren’t enough. Currently, in J&K, CRPF has 60 battalions and an additional 130 companies— a total of around 70,000 troops.
