Isayev SA-3 Goa: The Indian Air Force is considering upgrading its Pechora SA-3 missiles with Polish help whilst it waits for the Akash. According to Janes Missiles and Rockets (December 2005), the IAF would like to conduct the Newa-SCM upgrade package upgrade to 20 S-125M Pechora-CC systems, using primarily the Tatra 8x8 chassis, which is licence-built in India. Installation on specially adapted heavy equipment trailers or Tatra 8x8 vehicles was studied at the request of the Indian Air Force. It incorporates a new ZNO-X digital transmitter/receiver block developed by the Przemyslowy Instytut Telekomunikacji (PIT) to replace the original magnetron-based hardware. The unit uses digital technology, including digital frequency synthesis, and has automatic built-in test facilities. While the ZNO-X is an expensive upgrade, it significantly improves system performance. Most of the upgrade work would be done in India, although the core elements of the upgrade would be delivered from Poland.Pechora SAM will be phased out by 2012. As of 2009, no firm SA-3 upgrade program has been signed for.

SA-8 Gecko

SA-10 Grumble/S-300. However several sources disagree that India is a SA-10 operator.Reportedly 6 batteries were purchased in August 1995

SA-16 Gimlet - MANPAD

Barak SAM - India and Israel have agreed to expand their missile development cooperation with a longer-range version of their extended-range Barak ship defense system for the Indian Air Force.

Trishul(Trident): Development of Trishul is complete. It has met the IAF requirements during its various developmental flight trials. DRDO is presently in dialogue with IAF for possible induction. Frontier India reports that Indian Air force is considering to induct small quantity to meet partial requirement of LLQRM (Low Level Quick Reaction Missile) System. However it is not known if IAF has placed a formal order of Trishul SAM System.

SPYDER (Surface-to-air PYthon and DERby): In June 2007, India signed a $250 million to purchase SPYDER mobile air defense missiles from Israel. The two countries signed an additional $4 billion deal for the joint-development of a medium range surface-to-air missiles. However, the procurement of SPYDER missiles was delayed due to an ongoing investigation against Israel Aerospace Industries and RAFAEL by Indian intelligence agencies for its alleged kickbacks in the Barak-I deal with the Indian Navy. In August 2008, a $2.5 billion deal was signed by India and Israel to develop an advanced version of the SPYDER.

Maitri LLQRM (Low Level Quick Reaction Missile): DRDO is in talks with MBDA to develop Maitri LLQRM for Army, Air force and Navy. Sources said that DRDL is preparing feasibility report and is awaiting formal clearance from defence ministry.

Akash: Indian Air force has approved the induction of Akash Missile System and had initiated the process of inducting the system. Akash has successfully demonstrated its performance through number of flight tests. DRDO and IAF jointly began a ten day intensive trial of Akash on December 13, 2007 aimed at making IAF familiar with the system. Defence News reports that IAF has already ordered two units (squadrons) of Akash which are likely to be inducted by 2009.
Surface to Surface Missiles
Prithvi II: 250 km Prithvi-II Ballistic Missile is under IAF service which could be used to target airfields, command and control centers etc.

FT-2000/HQ-9, In October 2003, it was reported that China had closed a deal with Pakistan to supply an unspecified number of FT-2000 missiles to counter India’s early warning. capabilities. Pakistan is actively looking to purchase Chinese HQ-9/FD2000 high-altitude missile air defense system. Chinese HQ-9/FD2000 can hit aircraft out to 125 kilometers, air-launched cruise missiles out to 50 kilometers, and ballistic missiles out to 25 kilometers.Pakistan has already purchased JY-11, JYL-1, (earlier version of the self propelled YLC-2V) YLC-2 and JL3D-90A radars. These radars serve as Acquisition Radars for HQ-12/KS-1A (Which lost to spada-2000) and HQ-9 / FD-2000 high-altitude missile air defense system. Pakistan is purchasing three Regiments/9 batteries of the CPMIEC-built HQ-9 long-range surface-to-air missile (LR-SAM) system.

well after seeing all these analysis. I can be sure that IAF is far more superior and powerfull. Now Q is, that India can afford to modernise its armed forces.the answer is yes. Can pakistan????????? if yes, than wat ever aid she gets is used in army. With that her other sector is deprived, which is another good thing. The good thing is not to attack pak with weapon but forced her to use her fund on army than on citizen.

another thing India should modernise its armed forces keeping in eye the whole Asia...Iam sure India is working on that. God bless India

No,the best option for india would be to force pakistan to spend less on military and use the aid properly.......,in that way we shall have a militarily not so powerfull pakistan with less suffering......remember,the more pak suffers economically, the more jihadis and mujahideens and more headache for us........,a stable and healthy pakistan with weak military sd be on the top of our foreign policy

India is doing a great job in allocating proper and healthy amount of money for our armed forces....imo,our allocation is perfect, only 2% of gdp but enough to beat pak,and deter china....,.but problem is,the money is not being properly spent, which is not the case for pak

I agree with u. I think in pak, army has power to buy stuff. but here in India red tapism and concept of middle man delay the pecurement of millitary stuff.

Answer to ur first post . i think the more pak spends on army the more it comes in international radar. You forgot pak is a islamic country. The west dont want stronger Islamic country. As far as terrorism is conserned India has to make sure that there should be no infiltration. In this way India will make its border more secure with latest tech. "nessasity is mother of invention". above all weak pak is good for india both militarly and economically......

BUT,at this present moment with pak continually increasing its military muscle and indian diplomats unable to halt that,WE DO NEED TO HIT HARD PAK'S ALREADY WEAK ECONOMY!!!.......we can do that easily,imo.,......but ultimately,in that way an improved pak wud result with less spending in military imho...,.....we have to do it one way or the other, and this is the best option now.......NATIONAL INTEREST FIRST!!!
