Would you buy some local Chinese XYZ brand or some established brand like Apple or Samsung or HTC for mobile phone? The aircraft industry is heavily saturated and big manufacturers don't like competiton. That's why Russian Illushin brand has not had much success beyond backwater countries.

That may have been true 10 yrs ago but with rising oil cost and inflation, getting tech is necessary. However China having an agressive by hook or crook policy will antagonize rest if world as seen in current tariff war with US. US can shrug off damage but China can't due to more exposure and SWIFT system.

US has less exposure in trade war compared to China due to deficit. Thus only thing that can result will be inflation which ironically may even boost wages in US.

China on the other hand may see massive capital flight to US or India or even Africa and with a massive debt bubble, interest rates may kick in causing China to default on debts. If not following isolationist policy PRC WILL face a mega recession and possibly civil strife.

People forget one thing that US if decides to be like Eric Cartman and says 'screw you guys I'm going home', they have overabundance of resources and military might while trolling world economy at the same time.

Age of globalization is dead. Look at EU tearing itself apart with RW movements and middle East Hardline groups gaining support. Ironically your best trading partner in future may actually be India.

I don't know authenticity of these figures, but whatever the safety records at present are for airlines are due to 2 major companies Airbus and Boeing both established and committed to safety first.

When this chinese junk plane enters the service of Chinese carriers this rating can change drastically to zero, half or one star....

airlines from both countries fly planes from Airbus and Boeing, wondering why Indian airlines have got low ratings.

I can't guarantee that c919 is gonna be the safest, but it's assured it's safe enough to be commercially operational.

Russian airlines have been operating their own big planes for decades, though notorious for their bad safety record. China should learn that from Russia.

Genghis Khan Airlines, a newly established regional carrier in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, will receive its first batch of domestically manufactured ARJ21 aircraft by the end of the year, and launch its first flight early next year.

The airline will become the second customer of the ARJ21－China's first home-built regional passenger jetliner－after Chengdu Airlines. Genghis Khan Airlines plans to establish a fleet of 25 ARJ21 aircraft within the next five years.

Commercial Aircraft Corp of China Ltd, the developer of the ARJ21, said this latest development shows that commercial use of the aircraft is being stepped up.

Genghis Khan Airlines signed an aircraft purchase agreement for ARJ21-700 aircraft with COMAC on Monday in Beijing. The two sides will also cooperate on airplane operations, skills development, services and maintenance, to meet the growing demand for air transportation in Inner Mongolia.

The establishment of Genghis Khan Airlines, which operates mainly from Hohhot Baita International Airport and is financed by Inner Mongolia Communications Investment (Group) Co Ltd, was approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China in March.

The twin-engine ARJ21 has been in commercial use for more than two years and has transported over 160,000 people. With 78 to 90 seats, the aircraft has a flight range of 2,225 to 3,700 kilometers.

"The ARJ21 aircraft has great performance under ultra-low temperatures and it is suitable for takeoff and landing at plateau airports in western China, which is in line with the requirements of the aviation market in Inner Mongolia," said Hao Yutao, chairman of Genghis Khan Airlines.

"As the first regional airline of Inner Mongolia, we would like to help enrich the flight networks in the region, and we will mainly operate within the region," he said.

The ARJ21-700 is the first China-made jetliner designed for flying in western China. Inner Mongolia had been a major base for test flights of the aircraft.

With its vast territory, cities and towns in Inner Mongolia are scattered and far apart from each other. The region has so far established 28 civil airports, including 20 transportation airports, the highest number in China.

"China's regional aviation market is still in its initial stage of development. Most plateau airports globally are located in western China, and China is a great market with rich opportunities for the growth of the regional aviation sector," said Li Guijin, a professor at the Civil Aviation Management Institute of China.

Besides, COMAC said it would establish an aircraft maintenance center in Inner Mongolia. The center will initially provide maintenance services for the ARJ21. It will later provide services for the C919, China's first domestically manufactured single-aisle aircraft, which is expected to be put into use in 2021, and the widebody CR929, which is being jointly developed by China and Russia.

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd (COMAC) and Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) have chosen the biennial Airshow China being held in Zhuhai between November 6-11 to unveil a life-size model of its joint venture commercial jet, the CR929. According to Reuters, the ceremony was attended by senior executives from both state-owned planemakers.

The model is 22 meters long, 6.5 meters tall and 5.9 meters wide, incorporating a roomy interior with 9-abreast basic seating in economy class. The cockpit contains dummy instruments, though while the actual systems are yet to be chosen, a sidestick similar to the flying control favored by Airbus over the traditional control column has been included in the mock-up. “It is more Airbus than Boeing,” a senior Western aerospace executive said.

Commenting on the occasion, UAC President Yury Slyusar said: “Our program is making progress and is on schedule. It is currently in the preliminary design phase and we are also in the supplier and equipment selection phase, which will finish by the end of 2019.”

UAC Head Details CR929 Market Outlook and Timetable

Russia’s UAC sees Russia and China as the main markets for the two countries’ jointly developed CR929 widebody, anchoring a global market for about 8,000 airplanes worth $2.4 trillion over the next 20 years, according to an updated edition of the company’s market forecast presented at Airshow China 2018 in Zhuhai.

Speaking at the show, UAC president Yuri Slyusar said Russia and China account for a total of some 20 percent of the global demand. “Being a single largest buyer for passenger jets, China’s air transportation system is expected to generate most of the solvent demand for our new design,” he said. “Russia’s demand is estimated at 100 to 120 of the airplanes.”

Offering a range of 6,500 nautical miles while carrying 280 passengers, the CR929 would compete directly with the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. “Out of a thousand aircraft, our product would generate at least half of sales,” said Slyusar. UAC’s estimates call for China to take 250 and Russia 50.

UAC expects Southeast Asian countries also to buy in significant quantity. “We already feel a strong interest from them in our new product,” Slyusar said. “The CR929 is being created by joint efforts of large Russian and Chinese corporations. It is a very complex yet interesting project to shape and manage.” Slyusar further said that the joint work on the CR929 has improved the general atmosphere in Sino-Russian relations, fostering understanding on other projects such as those involving combat jets, airlifters, freighters, and amphibian aircraft. “Here at Zhuhai we are discussing a broad range of programs,” he noted.

UAC estimates the program costs at $13 to $15 billion, compared with Comac’s own estimate of $20 billion. “Either way, the project demands considerable investment,” stressed Slyusar. “It may pay off after fifteen years of production, and, as the manufacturing would continue after that, the project shall generate a profit.”

To support the product for that long, the CR929 would need to encompass a family of aircraft that would undergo updates as necessary.

“Right now, we are at the stage when vendors are selected,” Slyusar explained. “We speak to suitable partners around the globe, but Chinese and Russian companies and their joint ventures are a priority. Through the SSJ100 and MC-21 programs, the Russian vendors are becoming more competitive. The same can be said about the Chinese vendors, which improve through ongoing national programs.”

In his view, the CR929 gives the Russian and Chinese vendors another chance to grow.

“The project is on track,” he said. “The draft design and vendor selection should be complete at the end of the next year.”

Third C919 prototype operates first flight

The third prototype of the Comac C919 has conducted its maiden flight from the company’s factory adjacent to Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The flight lasted 1hr 38 minutes, and 31 test points were covered, says Comac.

Aircraft 103, which bears registration B-001D will join the other two prototypes in Xian province where it will focus on tests pertaining to flutter, airspeed calibrations, loading, stability, and general performance.

On 18 December, Comac announced that the first prototype, B-001A, had completed ground tests prior to airborne flutter testing.

With its first COMAC ARJ21, Genghis Khan Airlines prepares to launch scheduled passenger operations

On October 17, 2018 the new entity ordered 25 COMAC ARJ21 airliners. The first (B-001R) was delivered on February 22.

COMAC issued this statement:

ARJ21 aircraft with a nationality registration number of B-001R took off from Shanghai Dachang Airbase at 12:08 on February 22, 2019, and landed at Hohhot Baita International Airport of Inner Mongolia at 15:02 successfully after a flight of 2 hours and 54 minutes, which indicates the delivery of the first ARJ21 aircraft to Genghis Khan Airlines by Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC). This delivery marks the start of a new journey for the commercial operation of the China-made jet, and means that ARJ21 aircraft will take Hohhot as the base to help improve the regional transport network of Inner Mongolia.

Genghis Khan Airlines was approved by Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to make preparations in March 2018. The establishment of Genghis Khan Airlines will help to make up for the shortage of infrastructure in Inner Mongolia and realize the interconnection and intercommunication between the regional feeder lines and branch lines, and between the feeder lines and general aviation network; is favorable to promoting the development of civil aviation industry of Inner Mongolia and boosting the economic transformation and upgrading of Inner Mongolia. Genghis Khan Airlines signed an aircraft purchase agreement with COMAC in October 2018 to determine the aircraft type of the fleet at the initial stage of operation.

According to the preparation requirements, after a lot of preparatory work, Genghis Khan Airlines has now obtained the Public Air Transport Operator’s Certificate, completed the training of the first batch of flight, dispatch, maintenance and other specialized personnel of ARJ21 aircraft, sent personnel to Harbin to learn the characteristics of ARJ21 aircraft winter operation, and made adequate preparations. After the first aircraft completes the verification flight and obtains the operation certificate, it will start operation officially, and Genghis Khan Airlines will gradually expand the scale of ARJ21 aircraft fleet, build relevant operation, guarantee, business and management systems, and make contributions to exploring the development mode of commercial aircraft in China, establishing the R&D and production system of commercial aircraft in China, and promoting the implementation of trunk liner program.

ARJ21 aircraft has excellent performance in high temperature, severe cold and plateau conditions, and especially could meet the requirements of take-off and landing at the airports in mid-western & north regions of China and obstacle clearance along complex routes. A total of 12 ARJ21 aircraft have been delivered to customers. So far, ARJ21 aircraft have accumulated more than 9,000 hours of safe operations and carried more than 270,000 passengers. On the basis of stable operation, COMAC has continued to optimize ARJ21 aircraft design based on customer demand, and continuously improve the market competitiveness of ARJ21 aircraft towards the goal of “easy manufacturing, easy maintenance and easy operation”.

The airlines plans to launch its first flights in early 2019. Genghis Khan Airlines will operate domestic flights from Hohhot to 27 Inner Mongolian cities including Erenhot, Erlian, Manzhouli, Xilinhot and Baotou. It also plans to introduce Chinese domestic flights from Hohhot to Beijing, Harbin, Pudong, Shijiazhuang, Tianjin, Zhengzhou, Changsha and Qingdao.

The agreement with the China Aviation Supplies Holding Company was signed in Paris during a visit by Chinese president Xi Jinping.

Airbus says the agreement covers 290 A320-family jets – without a breakdown by variant – plus 10 A350s.

No specific recipient carriers have been identified by Airbus.

But the airframer says the agreement reflects “strong demand in all market segments” in China.

“Our expanding footprint in China demonstrates our lasting confidence in the Chinese market and our long-term commitment to China and our partners,” says chief executive Guillaume Faury.

Airbus puts the in-service fleet in China at around 1,730 aircraft with more than 1,450 of them from the A320 family.

Chinese domestic big plane won't be ready for commercial flight until 2025 if everything sticks to the schedule. before that, it's either Airbus or Boeing. if there has to be anyone who suffers, that is Boeing.

Why are you inventing circumstances? C919 is meant to end dependency on the A320. It failed, that is all.

you are being either dumb or unreasonable. What circumstance am I inventing? C919 is still under development, and won't be delivered until 2025 or maybe until 2021. Before that China has to purchase new commercial jetliner from Airbus or Boeing to fulfill the growing demand for more planes. And China will not stop buying planes from A and B even after C919 is delivered in a foreseeable future, but that doesn't mean it is failure. C919 will be a success as long as it claims a slice of the domestic market at the beginning that can sustain its further development. C919 doesn't have to be better than A320 or B737 max, and personally I don't expect that to happen in a decade. All C919 needs to do, is becoming a jetliner that is safe and cheap enough for its operators to make a profit. I can imagine, the prices of A320 and Boeing737 max will drop dramatically after C919 is proven to be eligible substitute for A320 and Boeing737. Or at least Chinese domestic airlines will get favorable discounts from A and B, that alone will save China a fortune which could be reinvested into C919.
