Chhattisgarh health minister TS Singh Deo on Saturday said use of Covid-19 vaccine- Covaxin should not be allowed as its trial has not been completed yet and final results are awaited.

“The third phase trial of Covaxin is under process. The vaccine has been approved for emergency use (by the Drug Controller General of India). Its use should be avoided until its complete results are out,” Deo told reporters.

When asked whether Covaxin would be administered to people if provided to the state, the minister said, “In my opinion, it should not be allowed in the state. As of now I am not confident to tell people to accept this vaccine.”

Covaxin is indigenous Covid-19 vaccine being manufactured by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV).

The vaccine received DCGI approval for phase I & II human clinical trials and the trials commenced across India from July, 2020.

Congress MP Manish Tewari on Wednesday raised more questions on the efficacy of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech, a day after the Centre indicated that states and beneficiaries will not have an option to choose between the two approved vaccines. Experts and Congress leaders have questioned the government’s decision to clear Bharat Biotech’s vaccine, Covaxin, without the pharmaceutical company completing its phase-3 human trials.

“Till yesterday NDA/BJP [National Democratic Alliance/Bharatiya Janata Party] claimed Covaxin has been cleared for emergency use,” Tewari tweeted. “Today by not allowing [the] recipient to pick [a] vaccine of his choice is NDA/BJP making Guinea pigs out of Indians? Is roll out THE REAL Phase-3 Trial of Covaxin?”

Tewari told ANI that the Centre should not roll out Covaxin till its efficacy and reliability is completely established and the Phase 3 trials are over. The Congress MP said that the government should act in a manner such that the people have complete confidence in it. “You can’t use rollout as phase 3 trial, Indians are not guinea pigs,” he reiterated.

On Tuesday, the Congress MP asked the Centre if it can guarantee the safety and efficacy of the Bharat Biotech vaccine, which was developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research. “Aren’t palliatives for emergency use & vaccines a preventive measure?” he said in a tweet. “Can vaccine be a palliative?” The palliative term refers to a medicine or medical treatment that reduces pain or the symptoms of a disease without providing a cure.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had hinted at the Centre’s decision to not allow an option to choose between the vaccines. “Many countries are using more than one vaccine,” Bhushan said. “There is no such option available to the beneficiaries in any country.” The second vaccine approved by India is Serum Institute of India’s Covishield.

The Drugs Controller General of India had approved Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech’s vaccines for emergency use on January 3. On Tuesday, the Union health ministry had announced that it has signed an agreement with Bharat Biotech to procure 55 lakh doses of its coronavirus vaccine. The first consignment of Bharat Biotech’s vaccine arrived in Delhi on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, India on Wednesday registered 15,968 new coronavirus cases, taking the overall count to 1,04,95,147. The toll rose by 202 to 1,51,529. The active cases remained below 3 lakh at 2,14,507 for the 23nd consecutive day, while the number of recoveries reached 1,01,29,111. India’s recovery rate is now 96.51%.

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma on Tuesday cautioned the government against any shortcuts while processing the COVID-19 vaccine applications and said any compromise on safety standards and rules will not be accepted.

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma on Tuesday cautioned the government against any shortcuts while processing the COVID-19 vaccine applications and said any compromise on safety standards and rules will not be accepted.

Pfizer, Bharat Biotech and the Serum Institute of India have applied to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use authorisation of their COVID-19 vaccine candidates in India and the government will soon take a call on them.

Sharma tweeted, "How can DCGI start processing vaccine applications in violation of rules and protocols? Cautioning the government that human lives and health is involved. No shortcuts and compromising safety standards and rules can be accepted."

Sharma, the deputy leader of Congress in Rajya Sabha and a former union minister, said the news on early arrival of COVID-19 vaccine in India raises hopes and will be uplifting for national confidence, but applications of US pharma giant Pfizer and Bharat Biotech for emergency use authorisation raise fundamental questions and concerns.

"Pfizer has not conducted any trials in India and the company has not got a licence from its country of origin. Bharat Biotech has not completed Phase 3 trials and even not released any interim data on efficacy of vaccine," he claimed.

The Indian arm of US pharmaceutical giant Pfizer had on December 4 sought approval for its vaccine from the central drug regulator, after the firm secured such clearance in the UK and Bahrain.

The Pune-based Serum Institute of India sought the nod for the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, Covishield, on December 6.

Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm Bharat Biotech on Monday applied to the central drug regulator seeking emergency use authorisation for its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin.

The Congress party continues to be divided over Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, with some leaders criticising the “premature” approval for the indigenously-developed Covid-19 vaccine, even as party chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala welcomed the move.

The Congress party continues to be divided over Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, with some leaders criticising the “premature” approval for the indigenously-developed Covid-19 vaccine, even as party chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala welcomed the move.

Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin was granted conditional nod, based on incomplete Phase 3 trial results data last week. The vaccine has been recommended for restricted emergency use authorisation by a subject expert committee appointed by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation.

On Monday, Congress leader Milind Deora added to the chorus of party leaders questioning the hasty approval.

“When we habitually oppose for the sake of opposing, we risk losing the credibility to ask genuine questions & hold the government accountable,” he tweeted. “No less the Prime Minister must come clean & restore eroding public faith in #Covaxin.”

Subsequently, in an interview to News18, Deora said, “There are sections of the scientific community that are concerned about one of the vaccines and the speedy approval given to it, no one is saying Indian vaccines are bad… So we should not get into a political slugfest.

“Bharat Biotech is a good company,” he added. “But a process has to be followed after which regulatory approvals are given and there has been a debate as to why this company’s vaccine was given approval in such a hasty manner.”

Two other senior Congress leaders, Shashi Tharoor and Jairam Ramesh, had Sunday raised questions over the “premature and dangerous” approval.

“The Covaxin has not yet had Phase 3 trials. Approval was premature and could be dangerous. @drharshvardhan should please clarify. Its use should be avoided till full trials are over. India can start with the AstraZeneca vaccine in the meantime,” Tharoor had tweeted.

Jairam Ramesh, seeking a clarification from Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, said “it is puzzling that internationally-accepted protocols relating to phase 3 trials are being modified for Covaxin.”

In Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, SP MP Azam Khan, who has been lodged in the district jail for a year, refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine being offered to the inmates.

178 detainees inside the district prison have been vaccinated with the vaccine by doctors. However, Azam Khan refused to take the vaccine.

Sources revealed that Azam Khan does not trust the BJP vaccine. Speculations suggest his decision was made after SP National President Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement that his party members will not take the vaccine provided by the BJP government.

Sources revealed that Azam Khan does not trust the BJP vaccine. Speculations suggest his decision was made after SP National President Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement that his party members will not take the vaccine provided by the BJP government.

When jail Superintendent DC Mishra was asked about this matter, he said that under the government's program this vaccine drive is being held so that COVID-19 has no chance of returning to the prison.

In this regard, an order was issued for all the detainees to have access to the COVID-19 vaccine. In the first phase, this directive was issued for those above 60 years of age. 178 detainees have been vaccinated in Sitapur Jail here.

In the second phase of the vaccination drive, people between 45 years and 60 years are being vaccinated.

The Superintendent further spoke on the matter of Azam Khan and said “We cannot impose the COVID-19 vaccine on anyone. If he does not wish to be innoculated, he will not be forced to. This was not his wish, so he did not get vaccinated.”

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said he would not take the “BJP’s vaccine”, and that when “our government” comes to power, everyone would be vaccinated for free.

Following criticism, he subsequently tweeted that he had “full confidence” in the ability of scientists, but he would not take the BJP’s “political vaccine”.

Main toh nahi lagwaunga abhi vaccine. Maine apni baat keh di. Aur woh bhi BJP lagayegi uska bharosa karunga main? Arre, jao bhai. Arre, apni sarkar ayegi, sabko free vaccine lagegi. Hum BJP ka vaccine nahin lagwa sakte (I will not get the vaccine now. I am telling you about myself. Am I going to trust a vaccine given by the BJP? Oh, get lost. When our government comes, everyone will get the vaccine free),” the former Chief Minister said at a press conference in Lucknow.

Asked about Saturday’s vaccination dry run in the state, he said mockingly, “What Corona? Who has Corona here? The government is not accepting that there is Corona. Then why are they doing this dry run? When did the government accept Corona? They only accept it when the Opposition does something.”

On the arrangements for the inoculation exercise, the SP chief said, “This government, which was getting rid of Corona by banging thalis and clapping, why does it need to arrange freezers and cold chains? They should just bang thalis and clap. Corona will go on its own. Why does a government that clapped and banged thalis and flew helicopters over hospitals, need such an elaborate cold chain? You and I are sitting here without masks. Covid is only for the Opposition, so that we are unable to do anything.”

Criticising the government’s response to the pandemic, Akhilesh said: “What jobs have they given? The Chief Minister first said that 4 lakh jobs were given, then 15 lakh, and then 1.5 crore jobs… No one got jobs.” Adityanath, he said, was only inaugurating infrastructure such as the Metro that had been built by the previous SP government. “He is inaugurating the same thing thrice,” Akhilesh said.

Reacting to the SP chief’s statement about the vaccine, BJP state chief Swatantra Dev Singh tweeted, “The ‘BJP’s vaccine’ to end gunda raj and corruption has proved to be effective. Which vaccine are you talking about, Akhilesh Yadavji?”

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said, “Akhilesh Yadavji, by refusing to get the coronavirus vaccine, you have in a way not just disrespected the country’s government, but you have also disrespected the country’s scientists and doctors who have worked day and night to prepare the vaccine, for which the whole country and the world was waiting.”

Akhilesh subsequently tweeted: “I have full confidence in the ability of scientists, but I do not trust the BJP’s unscientific clapping-and-banging plates thinking, and the BJP government’s arrangements for the distribution of the vaccine, which have remained paralysed during the pandemic. We will not get a shot of the BJP’s political vaccine. The SP government will give the vaccine for free.”

At the press conference, referring to the anti-conversion ordinance brought by the state government to curb so-called “love jihad”, Akhilesh said, “In Uttar Pradesh, there is a scheme by which you can claim Rs 50,000 for an inter-religious marriage or an inter-caste marriage. Then what is this law that you are bringing in?”

Asked about the suicides by protesting farmers, he said, “I would like to congratulate our farmer brothers… The Samajwadi Party is with the farmers at every step of their struggle. Our party is facing cases at several places [for holding protests]. We will keep giving voice to the farmers of the country.

“The farmers of Punjab, Haryana and other places are saying the right thing about MSP. The BJP had said they would double the income of farmers. Farmers are saying that they should get MSP which would double their income. The way this government lies and makes false promises… I have never seen this before.”

Asked if there will be promises relating to religion in the manifesto of the SP for the 2022 Assembly elections, Akhilesh said, “I am very religious. There is a temple in front of my house, inside my house. The CM residence that I vacated has a beautiful temple built by me. This is nothing new.”

On law and order in the state, he said: “Has UP seen the highest number of fake encounters or not? Has the state not seen fake encounters on the basis of religion and caste? Has the state had the most custodial deaths or not? Has the NHRC served the most notices to the state government or not? The UP government has been instructed to give compensation for fake encounters. Has this happened or not? Has the court not said that UP has jungle raj? Are our daughters and sisters not facing crime…? Never before has the state seen such injustice.”

Keeping up its attack on the Opposition over the COVID-19 vaccine issue, the BJP on Friday said all that its rivals, especially the Congress, have contributed to the matter is "politics and confusion".

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra hit out at opposition-ruled states like Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Kerala for "refusing" to use the indigenous Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech, and said they are playing with the lives of people for their "petty" politics.

On the other hand Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent out a big message to the world by getting the Covaxin jab, he told reporters here.

"The politics being played in the opposition-ruled states is an insult to the country's scientists and also hurts the 'aatmanirbhar bharat' sentiments," Patra said.

"I want to ask do you not trust scientists and doctors of your country? Over 40 countries have placed order for Covaxin. But in India, we have people doing politics over it for their selfish political interests," the BJP spokesperson said.

Bharat Biotech's Covaxin vaccine, whose emergency use approval before finishing final stage testing had triggered a row, has shown an 81 per cent efficacy in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 disease in an interim analysis of the advanced clinical trial, the company said on Wednesday, boosting prospects of its usage.

Patra alleged that opposition leaders would tease the government by asking why doesn't Prime Minister Modi prove its efficacy by opting for its jab.

Modi did it when his turn came, by following all protocols, he said, noting that President Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also opted for Covaxin.

So poisonous was the campaign against vaccination in Lutyens Media, Opposition and its digital lackeys that India’s population at large avoided taking the shot in initial months, a careful collating of research has revealed.

From Akhilesh Yadav’s jibe that “BJP’s vaccine” to “not-confident-to-urge-people-for-vaccine by Chhatisgarh: to constant needling by Rahul Gandhi which led to the accusation that he was lobbying for Pharma companies etc, a concerted disinformation campaign led to poor turn-out at a vaccine centres, leading to criminal delay at inoculation besides wastage of millions of vaccine doses.

An IITian’s (@vbanno) research has been highlighted on twitter by one Sharad Bishnoi who claims that since the vaccination plan was rolled out on January 15, “the intelligentsia, non-BJP political parties, NGOs all started speaking in the media that there is insufficient date on its efficacy, it is fake and we will not get it done.”

The research has pointed out that the “media also launched a movement against the Indian vaccine.” In support, the research points out the number of times media published articles against the vaccine: Indian Express (182 times), Loksatta (172), Navbharat Times (236), Hindustan Times (123), Times of India (28), The Wire (78), The Print (59), The Scroll (122), Newslaundry (54), The Hindu (128) and AltNews (78).

Then comes the long list of Opposition leaders/political parties who spread venom against the vaccine: Congress (58), Samajwadi Party (17), Shiv Sena (27), DMK (13), CPM (12) and TMC (12).

NGOs were no better. Founders and employees of 265 major NGOs spoke against the vaccine. No less tan 172 retired IAS, IPS, judges and other government officials also came out against the vaccine. No less than 342 cartoons were produced in opposition to the vaccine.

This led to fear and confusion among the masses. They began to believe that “vaccine is not safe and hence is not to be taken. When vaccination began from 15 Jan, only a few people used to come to the vaccine centres. On a couple of days, some vaccination centres reported only 2-3 vaccinations,” the thread on twitter reveals.

“If you look at the long lines for vaccines in Mumbai today, hundreds of people above 60 years are also seen.”

The research claims that somebody should go to these people above 60 years and ask them that since March when there were no crowds and vaccine doses were going waste, why did they not get the vaccination done then?

“Similarly, the HCWs (health care workers) and FLWs (Front Line Workers) now queuing up didn’t want it January onwards when it had opened up exclusively for them.”

The thread closes with the assertion that but for the fear created by these newspapers and politicians, “several million doses of vaccines were wasted, new orders were delayed, production capacity expansion didn’t take place.”

“Today, these same agitators/protestors against the vaccine are going to get vaccinated quietly,” the thread concludes.

Fucking shit, this prashant bhushan guy is total mental, dude was openly pushing propaganda, twisting facts against Covaxing, Covidshield, government funding the vaccine manufacturers, he even went on to say that since China without vaccine had no cases then why India needs it? Openly and repeatedly highlighting and exaggerating one or two incidents, opinion pieces or at one time, literally using saket gookhale as a source against BB.

My network is shit right now, so I am linking most of his tweets pushing outright propaganda and agenda on twitter, how is this guy not banned yet?

Someone who can, please archive all of these links. Also, take ss and add here. I have already taken ss but right now I am out of town and network is shit so can't upload them.
