In the ongoing COP26 in Nov 2021, PM Modi outlined the 5 major commitments by India in the direction of Climate Change-
1) India's Non-Fossil fuel energy capacity to be increased to 500 GW
2) India will meet 50 percent of the energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030
3) India to reduce the total carbon emission by 1 tonne till 2030 (currently average annual consumption is around 3.6-4 tonnes)
4) Target Carbon intensity of the economy to less than 45 percent by 2030
5) Net Zero by 2070

To attain these objectives, there will be a matrix of value drivers at play including- technology development and access, financing, partisanship in international politics, fractured economic statuses, energy security, and social values around sustainability at large.

In this thread, we will try to discuss any upcoming technology, startups, financing programs, and others along the similar lines

Ya'll Nibbiars pehale 1 trillion dollars for phir karate climate change targets.
haan simultaneously kar sakte. The article I have shared above says that their study expects India's emissions to peak by 2040 and then reduce, which might be okay considering the growth phase assumed for the economy.

Climate Change as such is quite a broad spectrum. The DST website of GoI has listed down all the project undergoing the Climate Change header but the data is pretty comprehensive-

Plus there are a lot of externalities that do not appear to have been captured- for example Ujala scheme of LED distribution

Adding something detailed on India's nuclear dreams and chinki grandmasti .........
Great article. Had two questions-

1) What, in specific, can get denied by the foreign suppliers on account of India's absence from NSG? What benefit would, say, a French/Russian/American supplier would have by blocking the sales to India on account of its absence from NSG?

2) Liability law, is still a problem with this government which has amended a lot of laws, a few of which brought about public ire? Nuclear energy is generally an obscure topic in the public eyes- other than a few NGOs no one talks about it. Why not to amend the laws?

>50% energy requirements through renewable energy sources

Tbh that seems way to optimistic. Nuclear (Maybe we will see some breakthrough with our thorium reactor dream within this decade) and Soylar should be priority here.

I wish we could just ban all the diesel vehicle for normal usage and i say that unironically, people should transition to the fully electric vehicles and companies should provide electric charging stations which itself are being charged by soylar energy. There are some reservations regarding the transportation vehicles like trucks etc. so let them wait until we see some success of Tesla truck and its equivalent competitor in the Indian market with of course cheaper price tag. Armed forces should be another exception.

Here's some data from EU,

In EU cars are responsible for around 60% of the total emission which is pretty bad, imagine cutting down all of that by 0%? Theoretically, that would be fucking amazing but we probably can get similar stats about India in major cities atleast.

Source for the above data, https://www.europarl.europa.eu/news...ions-from-cars-facts-and-figures-infographics

Also, IIRC in southern states of India wind energy is big (TN etc.) so that is good too.

EU has been autisticly against nuclear energy but we should adopt it, let them act like retards about it.

About
1. No idea mate; not an expert. Maybe someone with knowledge can respond.
2. Yes, still a problem. Nothing has been amended yet; do not know why.

5) Net Zero by 2070
:pound:
It's a pipe dream. Even if non-conventional sources of energy grow as per plans, India's per capita energy consumption will be higher than upper middle income countries of today. I'm not accounting the shifting of industrial chains and expansion of internal industries along with new sectors.

Which part do you think seems unattainable? Renewable contribution proportion or carbon sequestration targets(due to absence of any reliable technology in this date), we mostly rely on intervention thru nature like afforestation, mangroves plantation, etc)?

narrative at COP26, attempts being made to blame India.
china cleverly avoided proposing this amendment, hence not getting the blame for now, these initial hours.

India proposes and adopts “….accelerating efforts towards the ‘phase-down’ of unabated coal power” instead of a ‘phase-out’.

And an earlier commitment to phase out coal was watered down after India raised last-minute objections to the wording and replaced it with the phrase "phase down".
After the new wording was agreed amid expressions of disappointment by several nations, COP26 President Alok Sharma said he was "deeply sorry" for how events had unfolded.

Climate change mitigation revolves around the ploy to constantly pass the blame of global warming to poorer third world nations and demonize the middle and lower classes while the ultra rich and the first world countries can go scot-free.

Entire climate change discussion seems to have the air of it being a tactic by the First World nations to keep the developing countries poor by forcing them to adopt expensive non hydrocarbon forms of energy.
