U.S. to provide cutting-edge Mark VI armed patrol boats to Ukraine.

The U.S. Government plans to provide additional assistance in the amount of $125 million military assistance to Ukraine, including cutting-edge Mark VI armed patrol boats, CNN reported on Friday.

According to CNN, the new assistance package includes counter-artillery radars and armed Mark VI patrol boats, the latter of which is seen as particularly important given Ukraine’s tensions with Russia in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

“As a matter of policy, the Department of Defense does not comment on or confirm potential or pending security assistance packages while under Congressional review,” Pentagon spokesperson Lt. Col. Carla Gleason told CNN.

The MK VI designed to fulfill the requirement for an armored boat with greater range, more lethal firepower and sea keeping capabilities that exceeded the Navy’s small boat capabilities. They can conduct missions in the open ocean for protecting defence forces.

The versatile patrol vessels can support search-and-seizure operations, maritime intercept operations, theatre security cooperation operations and other clandestine security force activities. They can function as escorts for high-value assets and also take part in mine hunting and fast attack combats.

The 85-foot-long vessels averaged a speed of 25 knots, just under 30 mph.

The primary mission of Mark VI Patrol Boats is to provide capability to persistently patrol littoral areas beyond sheltered harbors and bays for the purpose of force protection of friendly and coalition forces and critical infrastructure. These missions include: security force assistance (SFA); high value unit (HVU) shipping escort; visit, board, search, and seizure (VBSS) operations; and theater security cooperation (TSC).

I know this news. The some media, almost do not jump out of pants when such news appears. The helicopter, which Ukraine bought from France, had not yet had time to tear off the ground, as they report it.
Personally, I have a dual attitude to American assistance. On the one hand, it’s good that they help, but on the other hand, many of their systems are not compatible with ours and then this is money thrown away. Especially, it was noticeable at the beginning of the war. The Americans handed over 300 flight helmet, but there is not a single photo that they are used. There are many such examples.
European military equipment is more suitable for us, but Europe is afraid of Russia's reaction.

It is modernized. He got a diesel engine, which is more powerful, sorted out the running gear. The video has a GAZ-66. He is the elder brother of the BRDM-2. And also forced to suffer.

It's time Ukraine starts transforming its weapons to be compatible with NATO. There's no other better way to improve Ukraine's security in case of a major war with Russia and its Ukrsinian proxies. That way the West can easily resupply Ulraine with weapons and there'll be less problem with integration.

NATO troops will not frontally fight side-by-side with Ulrsine in a major war but it will provide money, military equipments, intelligence, and advisers.

It looks to me that Varta-Novator is heavier (thus more protected) than BRDM-2. The latter looks lighter.

True - Soviet took Lesson learnt by German forces in WW-2 in eastern front seriously. What good is heavy armored car which is bogged down in mud ?

You're right. So it will be. In the future, the self-propelled "Bogdana" (155 mm) will replace the guns "Giathint" S and B (152 mm).

In the future, all artillery that has a caliber of 152 mm will be replaced by the caliber of NATO countries.
However, this is not a quick process. Poland has been moving for 20 years and still uses Russian artillery.
Even Britain, one of the founders of NATO, took more than 30 years to abandon its calibers.
The history of modern howitzer calibers dates back to the late 19th century.
155 mm - french
152.4 mm - Russian and British
150 mm - German
By the high-explosive action of the projectile, these calibers are close. German 15 cm is even better, because the Germans had a more developed chemical industry.
Back to the present.
I am not a supporter of caliber replacement. You don’t have to worry about the shortage of shells. In Ukraine, hundreds of tons of ammunition.
When the USSR withdrew its troops from Eastern Europe, he left all ammunition stockpiles on the territory of the UkrSSR.
The projectile can be stored for up to 50 years. Therefore, it is better to spend money on another.

This is an armored car of different classes.
Ukraine turns BRDM into light АРС.
Throws out the cart with additional wheels and it turns out the landing compartment for 6 people.

It does not spply to all battlefields. Lightly armored transport vehicles are best in conventional maneuver warfare. But you need heavily armored vehicles for urban fighting and anti-insurgency campaigns.

Why does the BRDM have better cross-country ability - because it has a pusher engine. I specifically pointed to the GAZ-66. BRDM is assembled from its units and assemblies, but 66 has a pulling engine.
On security.
Of course, the security of modern armored vehicles is higher, without gaining weight, because metallurgy does not stand still.

Ofcourse.. That's why I mentioned specific battle scenario.. And its not uncommon. PT-76 was popular for similar reasons in 71
