We are ready to repel Russian aggression. There is no talk of the return of Crimea and Donbass yet. Putin will make all of Russia starve, but he will not return Crimea. For him, it's a fetish. However, Crimea has big problems with fresh water, so this movement of Russian troops is a psychological pressure on Ukraine. Game "Who will blink first".
In 2014 we had a political crisis and the army, which is 25 years old was not at war. Now it's the other way around.

U.S. European Command has raised its alert status to the highest level after fighting resumed between Russian separatists & Ukrainian soldiers in Donetsk... and Russian forces began building up military equipment along the border.

Don't underestimate Russia and never fight on borrowed strength.
Calculate your odds against Russia and if it works well you will achieve your aim.
I don't see Russia attacking Ukraine, more of a posture to signal Kiev don't do something stupid.
Don't fall in same trap like Sakaashvili

I see a war between the Russians and Ukraine becoming more likely. Cause being:

I have already said that the plundered Donbass is not needed by anyone and no one was going to return it by military means. This is a highly urbanized area, so the shouts of Russian propagandists that "Ukraine wants to attack the peaceful Donbass" is just an attempt to justify itself.
We have no choice - we will defend ourselves. It is not to kill unarmed babays in Syria from the air. The coffins will go to Russia too.

If the Russians try to take control of the canal leading to crimea by force, it will be Russian aggression, and even if they succeed it will be detrimental to Russia in the long term.. I also hope that Ukraine does not try to take Crimea by force.. That would mean Ukraine starting a war..
If Russia is so concerned about water, let them set up desalination plants.. or move some population out of Crimea, until adequate alternative water provisions are made..

My 2 cents on the implications of a possible war between Russia and Ukraine:

Historically, the Dems in the US have been pro-war, and the new Biden admin is filled with ex-lobbyists. Though a war may not have direct US intervention, it is very likely that the US will pish for more aggressive action against Russia, economically, and militarily(via sales to the Ukrainians, and getting the Ukrainians to fight much harder against the Russians). In this event, a direct attack by Russia on the Baltics or Finland can also not be discounted, though it is unlikely.

While the US is bogged down in Ukraine, there may be the opening of more fronts in Taiwan, Iran and PoK. CAATSA waivers will also become much more hard, and will be a true test of the Indo-US relationship. Turkey has also started supplying weaponry to the Ukrainians(there have been reports of Bayraktyars in the Frontlines). Coupled with American sanctions on Saudi, and the blocking of arms sales to the UAE, a US-Turkey rapprochement is becoming more likely.

If another front is opened by the Chinese in Taiwan(this is likely if the US is involved directly in Ukraine), India would have the best chance ever of retaking PoK, as international attention would mostly be towards Ukraine, the Chinese would be busy in their own stuff, and Pak would be all alone.

NATO intervention in Ukraine cannot be predicted however, as there have been meetings between Ukrainian and NATO officials, with port calls by NATO navies, flights of Predators near Crimea and so on, but it seems unlikely that after such economic distress, any NATO country is in a position to intervene in Ukraine. The UK has massively cut down its Armed Forces, and Germany is in deep distress, with Merkel losing polls, and the German economy in a limbo. If there is an intervention, it is likely to be a joint US-French intervention. But, again, unlikely.

You will defend if you are attacked. But Russians have cards up their sleeves. With regards to body bags yes it is going to be tough, but for the time being it seems balance in favour of Russian.
That conflict with Ukraine was unnecessary, but where ever west goes it is the same plan.

Does not work. This will be "golden water". The operation with the Crimea was only part of the plane. Putin wanted Novorossiya.

What do commentators in Ukraine think? Is it just posturing of troops and equipment from the exercise or are there plans to invade Ukraine?

About the war. "No" more than "yes", but the General Staff is preparing for various situations.

We punched confidently cos we knew we can punch back hard again if Chinese escalated. And Chinese knew that too. Not so sure about Ukraine. No offence intended. But chances of Ukraine lasting against Russia is very slim. And Russia unlike China has balls to shed blood. And west is not going to interfere militarily for sure. That being said, the love for motherland turns soldiers into super soldiers. I hope everything is sorted out peacefully.

ukraine airforce is 100+ aircrafts , russian air force is 4000+ aircrafts , same or worse ratio for other branches of military as well.

this will be worse than armenia vs azerbhaijan unless US lends support.

:hmm: i wonder how far "unwavering" would go , maybe biden will send gift basket after putin takes over Ukraine.
