just speculation. the total number varies between 25~32. years ago, the 24th was long believed to be the last one by many "credible" sources until the 25th came out. so it really baffles me as well. the only credible clues are satellite images or candid shots. If 052E does exist, 26 is plausible. if 052E does not exist, 28~32 is more believable.
I'm sure there was a surge of reports from officials a while ago that 052d will be limited to 26 and 055 to 8 in number, after which there will be incremental sub class.
At this point, they are probably better off extending the production run than send the entire line into stagnation.

actually, those so called official reports were all based on various amateur online defence forums/weibo/twitter say just like this one or TV pundits lol. whatever it's state media or foreign media. don't take it seriously. state media often quotes foreign media(say CCTV 4/global times) and foreign media quotes state media and defence forums lol(say US media diplomacy/national interests lol/ indian media mainly quotes US media lol). that's why I say satellite images or sneak shots or maybe some internal leaks are the only credible sources. the only credible official reports are from state media Xinhua and they never report these kind of things.

the funny thing is what these TV pundits/retired generals say are mostly wrong or even the opposite.

Not really, 071 follow on orders were in public way before those ships started building. The same with 075. Also the info on 052 'DL' was out before the extended helipad was observed.

interestingly, these "official" reports even don't know the precise tonnage of 075 and its length are based on satellite images estimates.

In the age of digital shipyards, estimation of a ship by satellite imagery, enthusiast photos, open INTEL, etc can be done very accurately and easily.

Janes: China launches fifth Type 055 destroyer for PLAN
https://www.janes.com/article/91450/china-launches-fifth-type-055-destroyer-for-plan

The fifth Type 055 (Renhai-class) destroyer on order for the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) has been launched at the Jiangnan Changxingdao shipyard near Shanghai.

Work is now continuing in the fitting-out basin, as shown in commercial satellite imagery captured on 18 September.

The launch was not covered by official Chinese media but the satellite imagery shows that it occurred between 7 and 18 September, with some Chinese social media sites claiming that it took place on 12 September.

Displacing more than 10,000 tonnes, the Type 055 is the largest destroyer built for the PLAN. Its vertical launch system (VLS) comprises 112 cells from which surface-to-air, anti-ship, anti-submarine, and land-attack missiles can be launched.

055 will feature two Z-20 utility helicopters
Do you have any idea about the loadout of the TYPE-55 DESTROYER?
And what is its intended purpose?
Is it supposed to act as an air defense platform for CHINESE CBG or what??

Weibo sources claim the 22th 052D is said to have launched today at Jiangnan shipyard, which is totally eclipsed by the launch of 075 at Hudong shipyard.

Caught me off guard, wasn't expecting this to launch atleast until a month later.
This is the most productive year for 052d with 6 launches. This is probably the last launch for 2019.

actually the Z-20 naval varient dummy means everything....lol

the modified 052D(the 13th vessel of this type afterwards) and 055 will carry this as the main combat helicopter...Z-20 naval is always an important project for PLAN. obviously this 10 ton class heli is a more Proper size than 13 tons Z-18F. the maiden flight took place in 2018

the modified 052D extends the heli deck for this new heli replacing the Z-9C/D and Ka-28/31.

I wonder why China is not selling off its old destroyers to 3rd world countries. That is how the major navies pay for new ships by selling the old ones.

051 go to museum. they're too old to be resold.

051

two 052s, one 051B and four Russian Sovremennys are old but they haven't retired. these destroyers could be resold in the future.

052

051B
