Chinese Military Won't Accept 'Made In China' Fighters

BEIJING (Kyodo) -- China's Air Force has refused to accept 16 J-11B fighters manufactured by a domestic aircraft maker due to technical problems, the Kanwa Defense Review magazine said in its June issue, quoting a Western intelligence source in Beijing.

China is believed to have developed the new fighter based on technology from the Russian fighter Sukhoi Su-27, sparking speculation that the maker, Shenyang Aircraft Corp., may have failed to employ Russian technology accurately.

Shenyang Aircraft, based in Liaoning Province, manufactured 16 J-11B fighters in 2009.

"When the Air Force was checking them up for delivery, J-11B had abnormal vibration after taking off," the magazine quoted the source as saying. "As a result, the Air Force refused to accept the aircraft."

A Chinese military source said the J-11B was not chosen for exhibition at the National Day military parade in October last year due to doubts over technical feature of the fighter, according to the magazine.

That was to come out sooner or later. Copying, reverse engineering won't take China places. Got the money, but em' or still get ToT.

this might be problem of reverse engineering without clear cut knowledge on avionics

Its more likely that the private chinese manufacturer thought that using a thinner metal sheet won't make that big of a difference to the chinese reputation of designing cheap bad products!

Just a ploy by PLAAF to attract a sale from Russia, so they could steal more design (of the latest avionics). The last time they managed to almost knock off Flanker and ended up with a Wanker (Shenyang J11) instead.

hehe, the report was quoted from "Kanwa" .

Kanwa's reports on Chinese weapons are always late and unaccurate.

besides, Kanwa always "copy" the reports from CD

They can't export without a safe engine. We already seen those 16 J-11Bs sitting engine-less on the tarmac. Until we start seeing these coming out in numbers, we know WS-10A is a piece of junk.

the news is quoted from Kanwa. the reporter is Pinkov.
Pinkov is mixing up different events, then using his imagination to create "News" again.

J-11B had problems with WS-10A and that was no secret. In 2008, the delivery of 20 or so J-11B from SAC to PLAAF was canceled, after one pre-delivery J-11B had single mid air engine failure, losing blades and half the turbine stages got ejected from the tail. At the same time, the 1st J-11BS twin seat J-11B prototype under testing also crashed due to engine fan blade failure of WS-10A. Photos of engine less J-11B awaiting fix of the WS-10A sitting on the aprons in Shenyang were available in 2009. You can find them here as well.

However, around Oct-Nov 2009, muiltiple articles showing that WS-10A fan blade problems had been fixed are released, and from Dec 2009 onwards, photos of WS-10A equipped J-11B in PLAAF units in pre-delivery flights and training flights over Shenyang and surrounding areas are also seen.

Typical Kanwa though: outdated "news" with half fetched "sources" as always
