China began construction of its 40 or so hidden bases in the 1950s and though some have fallen out of military use and are open the public as museums, many are harboring China's newest air fleet.
Coming at the bunkers with bombs aimed at "the front door" likely won't do much to take structures like this out.

China Has More Than 40 Of These Underground Air Bases And They're Nearly Impossible To Destroy

The Germans were the first to bring their military underground during World War II. In response, the British were the first to experiment with "Earthquake Bombs"

The most powerful Earthquake Bomb right now is the 33K pound Massive Ordnance Penetrator by Boeing

The problem with bunker buster bomb delivery is that any good bunker will have a highly reinforced outer lip to detonate the bomb before it penetrates too far into the rock

A "conventional" hit will strike the bunker from the top or the sides hoping to collapse it from the point of entry

Because of the way the bunkers are built, the energy from a traditional strike will be absorbed by the roof and the excess load will spill from the sides into the surrounding rock

The "Wallis" approach is actually what's recommended to take out bunkers like this. The bomb falls away from the structure into the softer ground and shakes the entire area.

The shock waves would likely buckle the floor and skew the tensile load, buckling the ceiling as well

Even with doors like this

A Wallis explosion would prevent the airplanes form moving across the floor to the exit

But there's no guarantee. And the US has only a handful of MOP bombs. If it uses them it won't likely be on Chinese hangars.

Awesome structures!

How about a cruise missile through the entrance? That should rip it apart from within!

MOPs would have been used on underground facilities in Libya if Gaddafi had not given up his chemical warfare program.

Even if the entrance gets covered with rubble, it can be cleared by bulldozers. If the aircraft within are undamaged, a strike at the entrance won't achieve much, afaik.

I still think it might be viable to fire cruise missiles inside, and rip it apart from within.

How the rubble will come at first place there has to be a giant hole in entrance right how can a Jet jump pass the crater, I agree cruise is all different ball game

These are great cost-effective solutions.
But, how do our Jets get there, inside Chinese airspace, and bomb it? Surely, these locations would be heavily fortified.
I am not sure may be we use cruise to make the job effective or at least use them to blast their G2A missile and AA's so to make way for our jaguar Mirage and DR

our missiles are already stored in the Himalayas, even a nuclear strike won't stop us from retaliating.

Are you sure. The nuclear weapons are the first targets of nuclear attack. a few nuclear explosions in Himalayas would have the effects of thousand nuclear bombs in short and long run.

Its not about how you destroy them, it about if you can locate the co-ordinates of these bases :taunt:
