AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of CHina) is Chinese aviation industry giant, which has a yearly revenue of over 15 billion USD and is listed on global Fortune 500.(in fact it ranked 429th on the list of global Foutune 500 2009).
J10 ,J11 and almost all CHinese birds and helicopter are made by the company.Morever, CHina's 5G bird is also being developed by AVIC.

here is a ariticle in the website of AVIC. it mainly reports how AVIC is busy reinforcing and improving its anti-spy force,in order to provide a safe enviroment for the first test-flight of " the most important model aircraft"

In chinese cyberspace, it is widely accepted that "the most important model aircraft " is the speical subtle term for the CHinese 5 G aircraft.
clap

So, I do think that article indeliberately leaks that the first test-flight of CHinese 5G bird is planned in 2010.iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

here is the picture of the ariticle. the vertically -hung scroll in the meeting says: " Improve the managment and Assure the most important model aircraft advance Smoothly!"

it is reported that its engine would be a improved WS10,as a temporary engine fro test-flights.

CD, a famous CHinese military forum reports that Chinese new single-crystal blades and new material turbine are already mature and ready to be applied to improve WS10.

As I know , the core engine of CHina's 10.0-level(T/W ratio) engine started its first jetting successfully in 2005

WS-10 has been a failure for the last 30 years and this will power the 5th generation plane??other Chinese planes still have reports of engine fires, shouldn't these planes be fixed if the crystal blade technology has matured??

WS10 is already fixed on J11 . the pictures was revealed several monthly. you can look into it in http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=5

In fact, single-crystal blade and new materail tubine had been developed in labs before the design of WS10 was finalized .
However, CHina didn't manage the mass-production processes of the two new techs until recently.
So, the two new techs have not applied to the WS10 on the J11 fleet ,but people here guess that the two new techs will applied to the temporary engines for 5G bird.iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Chinese pilot gets top honors for saving faulty jet fighter

BEIJING, March 29 – A Chinese pilot who successfully brought a malfunctioning jet fighter, a domestically made J-10, in for a landing was given the nation’s First-Class Merit Citation and a Meritorious Pilot gold medal last Thursday

Li Feng, 38, an air force pilot with more than 2,000 hours of flight time, encountered an engine problem during a tactical training exercise at an altitude of about 4,500 meters on March 7.

With assistance from the command center of a nearby air base, Li tried every possible means to return to base. However, the plane lost all power at an altitude of 1,160 meters, although it was only about 6 km from the base’s runway.

“There was some smoke in the cockpit, perhaps generated by the engine, which leaked into the environmental control system,” Lt.-Col. Li said during an interview with China Central Television last week.

“All readings on the instrument board vanished, red lights flashed and the radio went out,” he said.

Under Air Force rules, fighter pilots may eject if their aircraft loses engine power below 2,000 meters and can’t be restarted.

Before Li lost contact with the control tower, the commander in the air base asked him to eject.

But Li Feng insisted on having another try.

“I knew where the deadline (to abandon the aircraft) was and was prepared for the ejection, but I decided not to give up unless the fighter was totally out of control.”

After 106 seconds, Li was able to glide the fighter to a safe landing.

During his service in the Air Force, Li handled another emergency in 1999, when his J-7 jet fighter caught fire at take-off.

The award ceremony was held by the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Air Force Command in Guangzhou, capital of south China’s Guangdong Province.

Li received the medal from Yang Dongming, Deputy Commander of the PLA’s Air Force, who came especially to the city for the ceremony on behalf of Commander Xu Qiliang.

Li is a deputy commander of an aviation regiment in the PLA’s Guangzhou Military Area Command.

The First-Class Merit Citation is the second-highest military award can get. The Meritorious Pilot gold medal is the top award that the PLA Air Force grants to its pilots. Only a very small number of outstanding pilots have been awarded those medals since 1991.

Li was also given 200,000 yuan (29,411 U.S. dollars) for his courage and composure, which allowed him to save the aircraft worth 200 million yuan. He will share the bonus with other people involved.

Those who were in the control tower during the event won Second-Class Merit Citations.

J10 uses AL37,russian-made engine. Only on J11 do People find WS10 in service until now.

as i refered, WS10 is already in the service on J11.

Of course, the core engine of WS10 comes from USA ,instead of Russia. WS10 is the cousin of F110,because they have same core engine tech.

This engine is on fourth generation planes what modifications will china make to have it in a fifth generation plane?? WS-10 is more of a copy of AL-31 and the claim Chinese will have a fifth generation prototype before Russia has not happened.

in fact, not only CHina, but also all developing countries such as India are choked by the lag-behind of their machining tech and material tech, although they never lack of good designers.

So, maybe their designers can disign excellet engine and aircraft in blueprints, however they usually have no decent machining tech and material tech to turn blueprints into real aircrafts and engines.

it is a stopgap for initial test-flight until real Chinese 10.0-level engine comes out.

In fact , Russia is doing so now, because its 10.0-level engine is not ready ,either.

Now,only USA and UK have real 10.0-level engine.

Gawd, how many times do we have to go over this. Chinese are testing a plane "based on the J-10", probably what we know as J-10B which is "fourth generation." We also have pictures already posted of a whole tarmac full of J-11Bs still waiting on WS-10A that still isn't ready.

And that link doesn't say anything about testing a 5th gen plane...

It was long ago, apparent that China would make a 5th gen fighter aircraft sooner or latter.

While people may haggle over the when, it is more that certain it will be some time in the next 15 years that this plane will see induction.
An awfully long time frame but in fact its even longer, considering the Chinese started working on 5th gen in the early 2000's .

At best they probably have a design for the aircraft, and might have even tested a few technologies on its other 4th gen planes. on the edge of reason, they may testing some form of very very early technology demonstrator.

Frankly speaking i cant see how the worlds 2nd largest defence budget will fail to accommodate a 5th gen plane. Its going to happen.

But i doubt the fact that the j-14, 13 or XX or whatever, will make a first fligth in 2010.

Simply put China has yet to test , to field a wide range of capabilities on the field before making an actual 5th gen plane.

An indigenous engine stands out the most prominent, while rumours and picture have made it on to the internet with the WS-10 on the J-11.
Its only been done so recently and has had hardly any time to mature or field the new tech.

Let alone the fact China has yet to make an engine that can super cruise or Preform Trust vectoring.

The lack of an AESA radar, inducted on a large scale shows another short coming.

The lack of any advanced missiles , barring the Russian BVR and the newly developed Chinese BVR.
Means any bird will be with out a claws.

and the list goes on.

It simply remains, that 2010 is to early a time.

Its simply impossible for China to go from a 4th gen bird(J-10) with foreign technologies in 2003. (The J-10 is still without its own engine by the way.)
To a 5th gen bird in 7 years, that's absurd,

You cant design and develop the technologies needed for a 5th gen bird in just 7 years.
It took China more than 15 to make the j-10 .

IT took Russia a good 2 decades of work to make the PAk-FA

the Americans took a good 15+ years (F-22). Despite already having two other stealth platforms(F-117 and B-2).
Its taken them another decade or so to get the F-35 II .

What are the road markers that lead you to believe that China can develop a 5th gen bird , in less time then the Americans, while being more than 20 years behind them in terms of technology.
7 years is just absurd, talk to me in 10 and i may consider it a probability.

the only way this can work , is if by 5th gen bird, China means a stealth aircraft like the F-117.
which might be a vague possibility.

But it cant be a F-22 or PAk-FA
