China witnessing online child marriages
Saibal Dasgupta TNN
Beijing: The old tradition of child marriage is returning to China in a modern electronic way. Parents are seeking matrimonial matches for their children via the internet.
Chinese match making websites including babytree-.com claim large-scale registration by new mothers seeking future wives and husbands for their children, according to the local media. Reports suggest several thousand parents have registered their children in various match making sites.
Given China's skewed sex ratio with men outnumbering women, many parents are worried they won't find brides for their sons unless they take early action, sources said.
"There will be even more men than women in the future in China," Cong Yuxin, mother of a nine-month old son, was quoted by Global Times as saying.
She recently uploaded information about her son in a match making website. She has attracted five applications from pregnant women who do not even know the gender of their future babies.
Parents post details about their babies on match making websites including hobbies, which are usually laughing and thumb-sucking, the Global Times reported. It said the site, babytree.com, has posted a message for parent-customers: "Say no to lonely babies, let's have a child marriage." The site claimed it has "successfully paired" 52 babies based on information given by their parents.

This gender imbalance will create a whole lot of social problem to include the situation in China.
One has to be careful so that we do not go China's way!
