To understand the importance of Pakistan for China we have to understand that there are two things,

1. Thar Coal
2. Chinese muslim problem.
For Coal today China is consuming around 45% of the global coal production and despite being one of the largest producers of coal it has become the largest importer of the coal in the world and the quantum of imports is going to increase further. Thar Coal deposits are supposed to be 5th largest in the world. Coal from Thar shipped by a train route will be reality few years down the line.

For the Chinese troubles in Xinjiang and the Uighur problems, Pakistan has been very supportive of the Chinese position and has not allowed anti China militants to grow and operate in their badlands.
So a few Billion Dollars which keep their restive areas quite is a trade off the Chinese will have no problem in accepting.

What makes me laugh is that indians always feel they are the victims in this great game.

But the fact is they are playing the same dirty game as any one else. Look at india's neighbour, you can find india's finger print in every case, from Nepal to Sri lanka, from China's Tibet to Pak.
Can you indicate what "fingerprint" are you talking about? Nepal has cultural and faith links with us since the beginning of time and even before Nepal was formed. Same goes with Bhutan. Today, we've taken this relationship further in terms of modern context by trade, commerce, economy and strategy. Just as Laos and Vietnam share it with your civilization. Sri Lanka has been our neighbour solely.

Do you see us building dual use ports and listening posts all around you? No but you are doing that. Building dual-use ports in Sri Lanka, propping up belligerent parties in countries friendly to us, supporting a rogue regime, sending PLA into our rightful territory etc.

So try and think about all that before you blame us for some crappy show of aggression. Got it?

No wonder Pakistanis so willingly claim their same "Muslim brothers" of Xingjiang to be "CIA sponsored terrorists against friend China". Talk about hypocrisy.

how many friends do you have aside uncle sam his puppies and russia???
You seriously want us to answer that question? SAM and his puppies? Who is not his puppy then you tell me? Iran? North Korea? You? Other than that, everyone else is and even so are you since you depend on US money for survival. The UNSC vote that we got this time had the highest rating from Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America:-- all emerging regions of the world and host to most countries whether independent or "puppies".

We are the only country on earth to have strategic level ties with bitter rivals on equal levels, whether it is Iran or Saudi, Jews or Arabia, England or Argentina, South Africa or Mozambique, Russia or United States, Serbia or NATO (as a whole), or any other damn comparison you want to make. How many countries have diplomacy like that? Now that your people have jumped the US bandwagon you think that it is that easy to create an "alternate" world for yourself and China combined. The way we see it, 30 years ago this is exactly where you were with US with all your leaders howling and screaming prayers for "our bestest friend" USA and now it is China. No difference at all.

But perhaps you like to repeat your mistakes.

You're talking about US puppies, man? :emot15:

This alliance with the Chinese will probably be the worst move Pakistan has ever made, it will give USA an invitation to come in and screw Pakistan big time especially after the billions USA has given to Pakistan, any betrayal in the eyes of USA will be the death of Pakistan. USA has already prepared for this scenario by placing thousand of BLACKWATER agents in all the major Pakistani cities.

Pakistan, China celebrate 'all-weather' friendship
ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan calls China its "all-weather" friend — an ally that offers consistent, no-strings-attached support during turbulent times. However, the reality is a more complicated mix of economics, security and self-interest.

Those complexities will be on display during the three-day visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, who arrived in Pakistan Friday. Islamabad has been grappling with an Islamist insurgency as well as political and economic turmoil in recent years, and Wen's trip — the first by a Chinese premier in five years — provides Pakistan with a rare occasion to play host to a foreign leader.

Wen's plane touched down under heavy security at a Pakistan air base, where a red carpet was rolled out and a full honor guard was on display. Pakistan's top civilian and military leaders, and nearly its full Cabinet, were on hand to greet the Chinese premier and his hundreds-strong delegation.

The visit will focus on investment and bilateral trade, but will also be used to showcase ties between the Asian neighbors that have endured and even flourished despite Beijing's drawing closer to Islamabad's archrival India.

China is Pakistan's closest friend in the region, giving Islamabad military aid and technical assistance, including nuclear technology. Crucially, it is perceived by many here as not distinguishing between Pakistan and India and — unlike Islamabad's so-called "fair-weather" friends in Washington — doesn't demand anything in return for assistance.

"There is the view that the U.S. is just here for a short period of time and that they do not have long-term interests," said Hamayoun Khan, a former researcher at the China Studies Center at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad. "Whereas China has a very long-term interest with Pakistan and they will always stay with Pakistan because they are your neighbor."

While China doesn't make the conditional demands the U.S. does in its relationship with Islamabad, Beijing is not left empty-handed from its ties with Pakistan. The country serves as China's gateway to the Muslim world, and is a close and cheap source of natural resources to fuel its growing economy.

"China sees Pakistan as a useful partner in a difficult and violent region, as a potential buffer against more extreme elements in the Muslim world, and — looking to a more distant future — a useful geographic outlet to the Arabian Sea for China's western provinces," said Daniel Markey, an analyst on South Asia at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington.

In recent years, Pakistan's strategic importance to the United States has soared because of its role in fighting militants along the border with Afghanistan. Pakistan's rugged tribal regions are also where Osama bin Laden and other senior al-Qaida leaders are believed to be hiding.

While Washington has showered Islamabad with aid, attention and occasional threats, China has been forging stronger relations with India, a fellow rising Asian power.

But China's improved ties with India are unlikely to have much influence on relations between Islamabad and Beijing, analysts said.

"Pakistan understands that China's relationship with India is also necessary and is good in a way because it can have a stabilizing effect on the region," said Talat Masood, an analyst and former Pakistani general. "I think Pakistan is quite realistic about it."

India looms large in both countries' calculations. Pakistan sees China as an ally that will take its side in any dispute with India, with which Islamabad has fought three wars since 1948. China sees New Delhi's preoccupation with Pakistan as a hedge against a growing economic competitor.

Pakistan is desperate for foreign investment to help create jobs for its 175 million people, and Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said a push for greater business links will be a big part of Wen's visit.

"Lately we have been trying to expand the scope of this relationship because our economic and trade relations do not really depict or portray the strength of our political relationship," he said. "Our bilateral trade is close to $7 billion, which is nothing."

While that number is up from $1 billion in 2000, much of the new trade consists of cheap Chinese imports into Pakistan. Islamabad will be looking for ways to balance that.

Pakistan believes China can help with a pressing need: providing electricity for its people.

Islamabad has agreed in principle to a controversial deal to purchase two nuclear reactors from China, and the two countries are working out the financial details. Beijing sees Pakistan as a future energy corridor due to its proximity to natural gas-rich Central Asian states, as well as a link to the Arabian Sea, analysts said.

As with any discussions involving Pakistan, security issues will also be on the agenda. The threat posed by Taliban and al-Qaida fighters in Pakistan is a growing concern for China given the countries' proximity, the presence of many hundreds of Chinese workers in Pakistan and China's own Muslim separatist movement in its western Xinjiang region.

Pakistan, China pledge to stay through thick and thin

ISLAMABAD Dec 20 (APP): Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit was to renew the pledge that Pakistan and China would stand together through thick and thin, and build a common destiny. Pakistan and China set a new pace of fostering their mutually beneficial six decades long relations by taking concrete steps to put their economic and trade cooperation on a new footing to bring prosperity to the region.

During the three-day visit of the Chinese Premier the two governments signed agreements and memorandums of understanding to expand their cooperation in multifaceted fields.
The two sides held in-depth discussions on every facet of their growing ties during the meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Senate Chairman Farooq H Naek, National Assembly Speaker Dr. Fehmida Mirza, chiefs of armed services and leaders of political parties.
Pakistan and China on Friday inked 13 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOUs) on cooperation in economy, energy, banking, security and technology.
On Saturday, Pakistan and China inked another 22 agreements between the business sectors of the two countries, aimed at expanding economic ties. These 35 agreements will bring in around US 25 billion dollars Chinese investment to Pakistan .
The business sector agreements were signed at a Pak-China Business Forum, which was attended by about 250 Chinese business leaders and prominent Pakistani entrepreneurs.
The Business Forum was convened specifically to help the two countries achieve the target of 18 billion dollars trade by 2015.
The MOUs were signed for establishment of cultural centres, for launching of joint Urdu programmes by Radio China and Radio Pakistan and for cooperation between securities regulatory commissions of the two countries.
An agreement to provide licence to establish Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) was signed by SBP Governor Shahid Hafeez Kardar and ICBC President Yang Kaisheng.
China also announced $10 million grant for citizens compensation programme for flood victims and $400 million concession loan to help meet their needs.
Both the countries agreed to further intensify cooperation in infrastructure development, energy and agriculture on a priority basis.
The Chinese side will provide assistance for upgrading the Karakorum Highway , resolve the problem of earthquake lakes, and encourage Chinese financial institutions to explore feasible financing schemes with the Pakistani side. The energy cooperation mechanism will be established to push forward bilateral cooperation in conventional energy, renewable energy and civil nuclear energy.
The two sides agreed to start the construction of China-Pakistan Agriculture Demonstration Zones as soon as possible. The two sides agreed to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in the financial sector. They also agreed to establish currency swap arrangements.
Another highlight of the visit was that China became the magnet for the Pakistani leadership across the political spectrum to sit together in the presidency with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and give a sense of political harmony in the country.
The gathering was a reflection of the government's persistent policy of furthering the spirit of political reconciliation.
The visit was also about deepening the sense of friendship which is always described in none other than superlatives. There are no two other countries which describe their relationship as sweeter than honey, higher than Himalayas and deeper than Arabian sea.
Pakistani leadership was proud that it has a friend which emerged as an economic powerhouse next to the United States and it achieved its new found status in only three decades during which the Chinese leadership showed vision and unleashed the market forces while keeping social and economic stability.
The soulful expressions of friendship were seen throughout the visit. And its best example was when Premier Wen addressed our parliament. He was passionate and showed what Pakistan meant to him as he waved and put his hands together in signs of friendship and told parliamentarians that as neighbours Pakistan and China are bound to stay together as they have to journey together and share prosperity.
The two Premiers inaugurated a Pak-China Friendship Centre in the capital which will be a forum to bring rich, diverse and ancient Chinese art and culture to Pakistanis.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani himself greeted and saw off the Chinese Premier in formal ceremonies at Chaklala air base.
The visit created enormous goodwill for Pakistan and like in every relationship, whether between individuals or between countries, in the end it seemed, it was not all about commercial linkages and who earned what from the other, but it was about the enduring sense of peace and friendship which lies at the heart of all human endeavours.

Govt opposition, nation united on Sino-Pak friendship: Ch. Nisar

Government and the opposition may have differences but when it comes to the issue of Sino-Pak friendship they stand united with unanimity of views over the deep-rooted ties between the two countries. Leader of the opposition in the House Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan said while extending a warm welcome to the visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in the Parliament on Sunday.

"We may have a lot of problems, but there is one issue on which there is no problem, no controversy, no difference of opinion and that is friendship with China," he said.
He invited the Chinese to go to every nook and corner of Pakistan and meet the people, who would tell them that 'China was a great friend of Pakistan.'
He described the Sino-Pak friendship as a legacy that would be passed on to generations to come: "Your (Chinese Premier) each word is in our memory, in our heart and it would be in future legacy."
He said Pakistan considered China a great friend: "We (would) follow what you said about Pakistan, and also follow what you have said in the speech which would be a new bench mark for our friendship," he said.
Ch. Nisar said Pakistan felt proud about the progress China has made and that Pakistan would act upon the advise given by the Chinese Premier. "God willing Pakistan is going to rise again," he added.
He being Opposition Leader as well as member of National Assembly welcomed the Chinese Premier. This august house (Parliament) he said, had set new dimension to Pak-China relationship and a new bench mark for the future of Sino-Pak relation.
"This is a truly a historic occasion because a true and a trusted friend of Pakistan has come before the House, which represents every segment of public opinion in Pakistan.
Prime Minister you are not just a normal friend of Pakistan. You are a selfless, time tested friend, who had helped Pakistan at every crisis. A friend whom we can depend upon and a friend who is totally trusted.
I would like to stand up here before you and this august house and salute you, salute the Chinese leadership, salute the people of China and your great country for great friendship that you have with us," Ch. Nisar said.

Chinese policy is to work with the failing state losers, easier to manipulate; for this 35 billion Pakistan will lose 350 billion or more for whatever price you want to put on sovereignty.

Sorry, but could NOT STOP LAUGHING.:emot15:

China's just trying to play off India and Pak against each other, otherwise it doesn't give a damn about Pakistan.

BTW - where did you get this? Some parts seem to be written by a 10-year old. Is it from the Communist Party Daily?

Well LF, Pakistan is not worth even 10 dollars in the current situation. However, yes, with the amount of fertile lands Pakistan possesses, China sure has it in it's eyes.

Chinese Premier Visits Pakistan to Reinforce Ties

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao arrived in Islamabad on Friday for a three-day visit that Pakistani officials said was aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership and economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and members of his cabinet welcomed Mr. Wen at Chaklala Air Base in neighboring Rawalpindi on Friday afternoon. A red carpet was rolled out and elaborate ceremonies were held to signify the importance Pakistan attaches to China, which is considered a close ally.

"Friendship with China is a matter of pride for our nation," Mr. Gilani was quoted as saying by local media as he welcomed his Chinese counterpart.

Apart from holding meetings with Mr. Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari, Mr. Wen was scheduled to address a special joint session of the Parliament on Sunday.

Pakistan's military ties with China are strong and China has assisted Pakistan in tank production, fighter aircraft manufacturing and naval technology. But since the late 1990s, economic concerns have gained increased importance. Trade and energy have taken precedence in Pakistan's relations with China.

Mr. Wen was accompanied by 260 business executives.

Pakistani officials say there is a need to enhance trade between the countries that stands around $7 billion a year. But there also are concerns here that the trade deficit is growing heavily in favor of China.

"The relationship is undergoing a qualitative change," said Mansoor Ahmad, an independent security analyst based in Islamabad. "This change is manifested in China's relationship with emerging markets and developing countries, which is essentially based on forging and enhancing trade linkages and securing new markets for Chinese investment."

The Chinese are also cooperating with Pakistan in developing its civil nuclear energy program despite discontent from Washington and New Delhi.

Mr. Wen, the Chinese prime minister, arrived here after completing a two-day tour of India, the estranged neighbor of Pakistan.

China would have to undertake a fine balancing act regarding enhancing its cooperation with both India and Pakistan, said Mr. Ahmad. China and India would forge economic ties despite their continuing territorial disputes, given India's huge market, he said. Tensions between India and Pakistan worsened after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in 2008, which India and the United States blamed on Lashkar-e-Taiba, a militant Islamic group based in Pakistan.

The Pakistan government sees China as a counterweight to India, and officials said that closer Chinese cooperation with India would not affect Pakistani ties with China.

Nonetheless, Mr. Wen's visit to India this week yielded greater immiediate progress on the economic front than toward resolving the more complicated geostrategic issues.

"In Pakistan's case, we have already had a longstanding strategic partnership which is now being supplemented by increasing Chinese investment in infrastructural development, civil nuclear cooperation and establishing rail and road linkages between the two countries," Mr. Ahmad said.
