Chinese officials are on standby to deploy an army of voracious ducks to Pakistan to help their neighbour fight locusts threatening to devour crops.

At least 100,000 of the specially raised waterfowl are expected to be sent to Pakistan later this year to combat a desert locust outbreak.

Chinese researchers have described the ducks as “biological weapons” and claimed they can be more effective than pesticide.

“One duck is able to eat more than 200 locusts a day,” said Lu Lizhi, a senior researcher with the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences who is in charge of the project. A trial to gauge the ducks' locust-eating prowess would begin in Xinjiang later this year, he told Bloomberg.

Hopefully the ducks are not carrying any coronavirus.

How the f* domestic ducks(are not capable of flying) can eat insects, which are known to fly 100's of miles in a day??

Chinkis&Porkis are so stupid and shameless
The ducks (and other birds) eat the larvae and the young insects whose wings haven't developed yet. Reproductive cycle is broken. Locusts have very short lifespan.

U mean to say ''u take ducks to wherever larva is''??

Isn't spraying insecticides easy solution instead taking huge number of ducks?

As far as i know 'insect larva is TOO SMALL in size so mostly FROGS eat them', anyway if it is working well&good.
If chickens can control locusts then ducks can do it more efficiently as they have a larger appetite. I don't understand why Pakistan needs China to supply them with ducks though.

Yeah lo bhai your so-called inventive idea,as i said earlier it is ABSURD &Un-realistic :pound:

‘Ducks to fight locusts’ in Pakistan unrealistic

Relying on a "duck army" to help fight Pakistan's war against crop-eating locusts is impractical, said Chinese experts, saying that whoever came up with this novel idea disrespected the hard work of Chinese experts.

Ducks rely on water, but in Pakistan's desert areas, the temperature is very high, so the idea of relying on ducks to chomp through locusts is unrealistic, Zhu Jingquan, an official from China's National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center. Some experts called the idea "absurd" and "an insult to experts' authority"
They'll make for some excellent dinner though.
I don't know what these guys are thinking, setting ducks free in that country.

Border paar abhi ek roti phenk dunga toh dange ho jaayenge.
Batak toh poocho mat...

What on earth they thinking to release a foreign species in their bioenviornment .. any good expert will discourage releasing any animal or species to a new environment. It will harm their biodiversity

100K influx of animals won't affect the local biome at all, nope. These ducks won't just eat locust larvae. Watch as in next few years Pakistan faces worse famines and stuff since their ecosystem will collapse due to ducks.
