BEIJING: China's state-run media reiterated the country's claim on Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, contending that the area is under "illegal Indian occupation".

Referring to President Pranab Mukherjee's current visit to Arunachal Pradesh, state-run Xinhua news agency highlighted the Chinese Foreign Ministry's statement urging India to refrain from moves that complicate boundary issues and restated Beijing's claim to the territory.

"The so-called 'Arunachal Pradesh' was established largely on the three areas of China's Tibet — Monyul, Loyul and Lower Tsayul — currently under Indian illegal occupation," the report said.

"These three areas, located between the illegal 'McMahon Line' and the traditional customary boundary between China and India, have always been Chinese territory."

Xinhua also referred to foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang's statement in response to Mukherjee's two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh.

"China's stance on the disputed area on the eastern part of the China-India border is consistent and clear," it quoted Qin as saying.

Bilateral ties have maintained a sound momentum for growth and both sides are trying to settle the border issue through the special representative mechanism and friendly consultations, he said.

"We hope India can work with China to protect the overall relationship, preserve peace and tranquillity on the border," Qin said.

China's reaction to Mukherjee's visit was in marked contrast to its reaction to a trip to Arunachal Pradesh by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2009. At that time, China said it was "deeply upset" about his visit to the "disputed region".

Arunachal CM criticizes China for reacting to President's visit

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki on Saturday criticized China for reacting to President Pranab Mukherjee's visit to the state.

"How can China react when the President is visiting a state of his own country? The state is an integral part of the Indian union," Tuki said.

He said China should not make provocative statement that was detrimental to bilateral relations.

Union minister of state for minority affairs Ninong Ering, an MP from Arunachal Pradesh, asked China not to interfere in the internal matters of India as it would create a wrong signal in the ongoing process of resolving the border issue.

In his address at the Arunachal Pradesh assembly, President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said the state is an "integral and important part" of the country.

Beijing, which claims Arunachal Pradesh is a part of southern Tibet, reacted to Mukherjee's visit to the state saying it hoped India would refrain from actions that complicate the boundary question.

Isn't it interesting that the Chinese Head does not visit Tibet and Xinjiang?

That is a part of China, is that not what the Chinese claim?

When will Chinese end the illegal occupation of so-called "Tibet" which is actually "Northern Arunachal pradesh"? Chinese should end this occupation and take the hand of friendship offered by India.

I do not understand why do India has to respond to China in regard to Arunachal Pradesh... Let the Chinese monkeys jump and hang from the trees by their tail and eat lizards...

Chinese are snakes, they can never be a friend as long as communist rule is alive, once the island situation is done(either they are comfortable or loose hope for time being), they will again turn against India(if its too soon e. g. in next 1-2 years, then most probably it will be just for show, like last intrusion to give cold feet to our elites in new delhi), and move on to grab Viet's/Fillipo's Island), just hope that our ruling class never forgets the real character of a snake.
