It means you have sold gift as (AID) a sub standard plane to your beloved Pakistan
JF17 is a fine aircraft. quite an agile aircraft (a noted indian defence expert thought after the zhuhai airshow that in his opinion FC-1 flew better than Mirge2000). Coupled with up-to-date electronics decent selection of armament including active Air-air missiles like the PL12, a good range (3000km in ferry mode) and moderate price-tag, this is a aircraft that suits Pakistan well.China has decided not to induct JF17 not because it is a bad aircraft but because J10 suits her better.

J17 is a fine bird no denying that, but the best way to characterize the j17 is: A light multi role fighter with moderate air to air and moderated to limited air to ground capabilities best suited as a second line fighter/Interceptor. more esily put it is a LIGHT COMBAT AIRCRAFT.

there are a lot of countries buying the JF 17, but none of those countries have a respectable airforce. ex Sudan, Algeria. Actually we could sell the Tejas to countries like Bangladesh or Sri Lanka with slightly larger budgets but or PR department is hoplessly behind everyone else....

No one in India has any illusions about the Tejas, we know that it is well suited as a second line fighter/Interceptor and as a replacement for the mig 21's.
Dont make generaliztions, I remember some dude on this forum saying Tejas could take the J20! If that's not under "illussions" I dont know what is. Most Indians on this forum have dilusions" about Tejas.

LCA/Tejas could eventually become a capable aircraft, potentially better than JF-17. But there is long way to go before that might happen. Flight envelope, armament, pretty much everuything is still up in the air despite its status being labeled as 'inducted'. Even then LCA would hardly be competitive on the international market (the MRCA saga shows you just how fierce it is these days). Already running at 50million dollars a piece, the unit price for LCA would only go up as more goodies get integrated. And the prolonged development cycle will only add more to the overal cost. Then with half of the content and practically all critical parts imported, LCA would bascially be unsellable due to restrictions alone (the same applies to virtually every weapon India produces. Yakhont has had quite bit success, but Brahmos none, now you know why?) Then there is the capacity issue. Serial production is never a strength of India's defence industry, a problem that could be traced back to India's overall weakness in manufacturing. India would be hard pressed to make a dozend aircrafts a year, leaving hardly any space for export. Finally there is the Gripen factor, an aircraft that is about the same size as Tejas and uses the same engine. However, there is where the similarities end. Gripen is in every way a much much better aircraft and doesn't cost much more!

Realistically the Tejas/LCA project, running later by ca 20 years, has basically become a tech-demo project, don't think there is anyone within India's armed forces who is counting on this bird to do much. As for export, no chance at all.

Unlike in other countries Once the Aircraft inducted the Upgrade starts batch wise as per demand but in Indian context the Aircraft update in its Prototype stages that is one reason 20 years, Anyways there are more than 200 orders for LCA in IAF as its fit the need for Light multi-role fighter with a range of 3000km..

Now the focues on LCA-2, Btw we have here dedicate thread on LCA..
