Beijing, May 14 (PTI) China today restored full Internet access in riot-torn Muslim majority Xinjiang region, ten months after shutting down access over allegations that agitators used the web to "orchestrate" the ethnic violence that killed nearly 200 people.

The Xinjiang Government said Internet services were "fully resumed" in line with the region's needs for maintaining stability and boosting social and economic development.

The move was also aimed at meeting the Xinjiang residents' requests for information, it said in a statement.

Internet access and text messaging services were banned in the wake of dealy riots in July last year that killed over 200 people. The Xinjiang region is dominated by Uygur Muslims.

The province has seven million Internet users who complained that they felt "chocked" and "cut off" from the outside world without the web services.
