In 2014, China moved past Britain to become the world's second-largest publisher of high-quality science research papers as measured by the Nature Index (which comprises 68 high-quality science journals).
In 2016, China was solidly in second place (behind only the United States) with about 18% of worldwide share in high-quality science research publications on the Nature Index.
