Krishna raises People's Liberation Army's presence in PoK with China

Published February 10, 2012

S.M. Krishna and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jeichi shake hands during a meeting in Beijing. India has raised concerns over the presence of People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) with China. Foreign Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna discussed the matter during his meeting with Chinese leaders on Wednesday.

Indian Army chief General V.K. Singh had earlier said that around 4,000 Chinese troops were in PoK, which India maintains is its land.

On the border dispute with China, India said there was a need to exercise patience as a mechanism was in place to resolve the dispute.

India has been saying that it hopes the long-standing border dispute would have no bearing on the trade relations between the two neighbours. India and China hope to scale up bilateral trade in the coming years.

However, a point of much discomfort has been the issue of Indian traders languishing in China. Though Krishna raised the issue with Chinese leaders, there has been little response from Beijing.

On the other side, after Krishna met the two Indian traders who have been stuck in China for about two months, their families in India have been hopeful of their early return.

precise and perfect.

I have seen several political parties using the status quo loc as the border of India in their campaigns lately. I dont know why they are even allowed to do that. Disgustin isn't it?

Over leasing out PoK to China, BJP, JKNPP, JSM stage walkout

Jammu, Mar 20, 2012(PTI)

Expressing concern over the alleged leasing out of land of Gilgit Baltistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) to China and increasing their presence in these areas, the opposition staged a walkout from the J-K Assembly today amidst uproarious scenes.

The opposition BJP, JKNPP and Jammu State Morcha (JSM) staged the walkout demanding liberation of POK and getting it back to the Indian fold.

BJP members led by Jugal Kishore, JKNPP members headed by Balwant Singh Mankotia and JSM member Ashwani Kumar raised the issue of alleged leasing out of land by Pakistan in Gilgit Baltistan and POK to China.

They expressed concern over the alleged increasing presence of China in these areas and sought a reply from the government.

Asserting the Centre should take measures in this regard, they demanded that POK should be liberated and taken back as per a resolution in the Parliament that POK and other areas are parts of India.

Referring to media reports, Jugal Kishore claimed that China was using the land in these areas and Pakistan had leased out some parts to China to keep a tab on the activities of India.

The BJP leader accused both the state and central governments of remaining `mum' on the issue.
During their protests the House witnessed uproarious scenes after the Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla said it was an issue concerning the Union Home Ministry.

The members later staged a walkout from the House over the issue.JKNPP members led by Harshdev Singh also raised the issue of alleged discrimination in grant of crop compensation under the Natural Calamity Fund in the Jammu region and trooped into the Well of the House.
Singh asserted that no compensation had been granted to the affected people under crop compensation in Udhampur and Samba districts.

On Deputy Speaker Sartaj Madni giving directions to the government to reply on the issue, Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla said that the matter would be looked into.
Unsatisfied by the reply, the JKNPP members staged the walkout.

I don't understand how walkouts will change the situation. Instead if they raised hell staying inside the parliament, then things could possibly change. This toothless government is going to sell our state to enemies.

Chinese engineers spotted in PoK

JAMMU: Chinese engineers and technical advisors have been spotted across Line of Control (L0C) in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), a senior army official has said. "Chinese engineers have been spotted in areas across Line of Control (LoC) (in PoK)", General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 25 Infantry Division, Maj Gen K H Singh told reporters at Rajouri, 170 kms from here on Thursday.

"Till now, reports reveal about the presence of their are engineers and technical advisors. There are a large number of other Chinese people working in civil clothes --whether they are civilians or army men --we cannot say", he said.

Replying to another question about threat from China, he said there is no danger and the danger is only when they change their strategy.

"Both China and India are rising powers and there is room for both --we are working in this direction and India believes in peace", he said.

Pointing out that infiltration is on from across the border line, he said troops are alert to foil their designs.

"In 8 months, 9 to 10 infiltration bids have been foiled and 30 to 40 militants have been pushed back", he said.

Maj Gen Singh said reports said that women militants in PoK are being trained to carry out suicide attacks.

He said there are 20 to 30 militants active in Rajouri-Poonch belt of J&K.

Stop all ventures in PoK, India tells China

NEW DELHI: China may claim there is "not a single" People's Liberation Army (PLA) soldier in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) but India remains thoroughly unconvinced. Ahead of the delegation-level meeting with visiting Chinese defence minister General Liang Guanglie on Tuesday, India has again asked Beijing to stop expanding its strategic footprint in PoK.

"The government is aware of the infrastructure development by China at the border and their (Chinese) undertaking infrastructure projects in PoK. The government has conveyed its concerns to China about its activities in PoK and asked them to cease such activities," said defence minister A K Antony, in a written reply in Lok Sabha on Monday.

The statement is bound to ruffle the feathers of a prickly China that is already miffed with the new US defence policy to progressively shift 60% of its formidable naval fleet to the Asia-Pacific region, and Washington's description of India as "a linchpin" in this unfolding strategy.

But while India is unwilling to jump onto any US-led bandwagon to "contain" China, and takes adequate care to respect Chinese sensitivities, Beijing continues to expand its presence in PoK and the Gilgit-Baltistan areas in the garb of infrastructure projects.

Moreover, India remains concerned about the ever-expanding Beijing-Islamabad military nexus, which is clearly directed against New Delhi, as well as the massive build-up of military infrastructure by the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) all along the 4,057-km Line of Actual Control (LAC) and its naval forays into the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

China has also helped Pakistan rapidly expand its nuclear and missile arsenals, as also supply it with a whole lot of conventional weaponry that ranges from JF-17 and F-7 fighters to F-22P frigates and early warning and control aircraft.

India is expected to raise these concerns with China during the 90-minute delegation-level meeting between Antony and Gen Liang on Tuesday, with the chairman of the chiefs of staff committee Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne also slated to call on the Chinese dignitary later in the day.

On Monday, Antony said, "The government is fully seized of the security imperatives of the country and reviews the threat perception from time to time as well as the need for developing requisite infrastructure (to counter China) in the border areas."

"Indian territory under occupation by China in J&K since 1962 is approximately 38,000 sq km. In addition to this, under the so-called China-Pakistan `boundary agreement' of 1963, Pakistan illegally ceded 5,180 sq km of Indian territory in PoK to China. In the eastern sector, China illegally claims approximately 90,000 sq km of Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh," he added.

In reply to another query over the Chinese naval presence in IOR, Antony said the government was keeping track of projects like port development and deep sea mining by China in the region.

China is expanding its strategic footprint to the East, SE of China towards Philippines, in the West well beyond POK.

China is very clear and determined in it hegemonic pursuit to be an aggressive top player in the world and a challenge to the Western power, especially the US.

China is totally aware that India stands in its way in many of these hegemonic adventures undertaken by China, and so she is hard at it to ensure that India becomes not consequential in this area.

That the US is observing the Chinese pursuits with a keen eye is so evident in the US shifting her focus from the Middle East to the East to include shifting of 60% of its assets to the East.

This shifting of naval assets by the US is a body blow to China and so China is taking the land route to tighten its pincers over Asia and even the Middle East, where China is making steady and unobtrusive, yet determined forays.

How can the Chinese be stopped in their tracks and encouraged to smell the coffee?

Quite right. It is natrural for any rising power.

China is totally aware that India stands in its way in many of these hegemonic adventures undertaken by China, and so she is hard at it to ensure that India becomes not consequential in this area.
Well, my friend, no offense: China is not aware that india stands in its way since india has no power project ability beyond indian ocean. Even in indian ocean, india's own "back yard", US navy is the dominant power.

How can the Chinese be stopped in their tracks and encouraged to smell the coffee?
Easy, as long as you can throw more money on the table! US can do that, what about india? You have to ask youself the question: can we offer more than Chinese.
If answer is no, then you have to smell the coffee.
If answer is yes, then show me the money!

As of now, China's ability to project its power is no where close to that of India's!
