China spent 30 years to plant sustainable greenery for one-third of the Kubuqi Desert (18,600 sq. km) in China's Inner Mongolia Province. This is an incredible achievement, because China's experience and technology can be used to reverse desertification in other countries. This will improve the lives and standards of living for impoverished people trying to earn an income by working the land.

In the Kubuqi Desert of Inner Mongolia, China, where centuries of grazing had rid land of all vegetation, Elion Resources Group partnered with local people and the Beijing government to combat desertification and greened one third of the land."

I love this greening efforts. Sustainability is the key though, especially with water resources. Same template will be valid for Terra-formation else where too.

Amazing work :hail::hail::hail::hail:

We need similar programs in Rajasthan and Kutch. Only issue in India might be scarcity of water.

EDIT:

Back in 80's there was a similar program by Rajiv Gandhi in certain parts of Gujarat and elsewhere in India. They planted Prosopis juliflora in massive numbers. It did achieve its goal of stopping desert but unfortunately it became an invasive spices and an environmental threat in long run.

I don't know. All of the parties involved are Chinese. If there is a case study, it would be written in Mandarin. Since I can't read or write Mandarin, I have no idea where to find such a study.

In any case, here is another video of China's greening of the desert in Inner Mongolia province. The spectacular results are undeniable.

The overarching theme is Man vs. Nature. With the application of proper technology and science, Man can clearly overcome Nature's desertification.

A female farmer has planted thousands of trees covering 4,000 hectares of desert in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, creating a green belt in the barren land in northern China."
