Chinese EV makers Li Auto, Xpeng and Nio post sales declines for second straight month, fuelling price-war worries

Deliveries by major Chinese electric vehicle (EV) makers dropped for the second consecutive month in February, raising worries that a bruising price war may be imminent even though the month included an eight-day break in sales over the Lunar New Year holiday.
Beijing-based Li Auto, mainland China's nearest rival to Tesla, delivered 20,251 vehicles in February, down 35 per cent from January, following a decline of 38.1 per cent in the previous month. Nio, based in Shanghai, reported 8,132 deliveries, down 19 per cent month on month, compared to a January drop of 44.2 per cent. Guangzhou-headquartered Xpeng handed 4,545 vehicles to customers, down 44.9 per cent, after it posted a 59 per cent fall in January.
"Weak sales [in February] were expected, but a two-straight-month decline bodes ill for the Chinese electric car market where a new round of price cutting is taking shape," said Tian Maowei, a sales manager at Yiyou Auto Service in Shanghai. "Escalating competition in a slowing market will kick some underachieving players out this year."

Maybe it is not really so weak? How many "weakening" economy can afford to build its HSR to 75000km, launch new industries in airliners and aircraft engines and build out and dominate new sectors like EVs? :D

People are waiting for new models and new price drops ;)

There is a bloodbath coming in the car industry for all companies, including ICE, when BYD cut prices across the board because they have reached economy of scale :)

Some brands up, some brands down, just normally changes month by month.

New energy vehicle makers in China saw rising deliveries in January, which is usually not a popular car-buying month.

Shanghai-listed Seres said its NEV sales in January soared 654 percent year-on-year, primarily driven by AITO-branded vehicles.

Good , that's what we China watchers in India want . That your EV cos have bloodbath amongst yourselves & gwailou cos. That gwailou cos exit China & China in turn either exports their junk to gwailou nations in a big way or mfg there running gwailou companies out of business.

Plus CCP gets to claim it doesn't subsidise it's own EV OEMs.

Revenge for 100 years of humiliation !!

Win win situation all around

So essentially what you're saying is CCP has run out of money to subsidise EV OEMs

Why the $20K Honda Accord and $10K Toyota Corolla in China still can't compete with BYD :)

Lady those Honda & Toyota models are literally 30-40 yrs old . Every now & then these Japanese cos tweak something in those cars & come out with a new model which must have been selling like hot cakes in China . They should've been retired by those companies decades ago .

They would be BYD, MG, Volvo, also would be BMW, Mini Copper, Tesla.

My friend bought a Shenyang made BMW i3, in Germany.

Earlier this month, a massive ship picked up over 5,000 electric cars from two ports in northern and southern China. Five days later, it passed through Singapore, and it is now headed for India.
