Actually, the world economy was growing since last second half of last year and China produced and exported at a record level -- so much so that its power grid couldn't keep up (we posted about that in this thread!)

It also imported a massive amount especially from Germany, South America and other East/Southeast Asian countries which created growth.

Now if China slows down there would be less imports and less growth. If China's supply chains slows down then there will be a lot of money chasing after fewer goods and more rampant inflation.

Countries like India don't import from China because it wants to. Look at India's ban on Chinese apps. Countries import from China the things they need.

Inflation inside China for goods is very low. Of course, raw material like ore are imported so they also inflate but because China produces in abundance everything it needs prices are kept low.

Consumer prices are surging in the U.S. and Europe, but in China, food and energy costs are becalmed.

Covid will never stop China from producing enough for itself. The Chinese commies are not suicidal. But the lockdown will impact excess production for the rest of the world.

It was supposed to decline from 2035. At worse from 2030. The fact it is happening so early that is 10 years before should send alarm bells ringing. Given their low retirement age more people will be retired by 2030. And their retirement funds will most likely run out sooner by 2040. That is why they seem to be asking their children and their families to take care of their elderly and not depend on the government.

Very hard for Xi to do that now, if people haven't realized, the zero-covid policy has become more political than logical or medically sound as a policy. Xi has put all his weight behind this and can't afford to roll it back else he will be seen as weak and his opponents within the CCP will use it against him(if they still exist that is) in the 20th National Congress of the CCP. I am not saying it will end up removing him from the post of the General Secretary of the CCP but it might effectively kill his chances at becoming the Chairman of the CCP, a position that only Mao held till now.
