Many people think China is a very homogeneous country without any diversity, that's not totally true, China may be not as diverse as south Asian nations but she still has her fair share of cultural diversity, over 100 million ethnic minorities living and even dominate in two thirds of China, Xishuangbanna is one of those regions.

Xishuangbanna, Sibsongbanna, or Sipsong Panna, shortened to Banna New Tai Lü script: ᦈᦹᧈᦈᦹᧈᦵᦋᦲᧁᧈᦘᦱᦉᦱᦺᦑ᧑᧒ᦗᧃᦓᦱ; Chinese: 西双版纳傣族自治州; Thai: สิบสองปันนา; Lao: ສິບສອງພັນນາ; It is a Tai Lüautonomous prefecture in the extreme south of Yunnan, China. The prefectural seat is Jinghong, the largest settlement in the area and one that straddles the Mekong, called the "Lancang River" in Chinese.

This region of China is noted for its distinct culture, one unlike that of the Han Chinese. The people, architecture, language, and culture more closely resemble those of the Shan, Dai and Tai peoples, which includes the Thai and Lao

Quick question; What's the origin of these elephants, indigeneous or imported? Are there any Chinese elephants still left or have they all been killed off?
Indigeneous Asian elephants, but they cause havoc now in this region, local government tries to find solutions for increasing number of elephants in this region.

That is good... I heard there is a portal in China through which citizens can suggest govt officials directly?
If that's the case then, let them know about the fodder-planting policy being practiced in parts of Assam. Local communities plant fodder plants in the outer forests for the area's elephants. They raid crops less that way.

Also, one person from wildlife department can shadow & track every herd constantly. Every mobile phone within 1km from his/her GPS location will automatically get a call from a central bot with warning message. If people are already alerted, the chance of encounter deaths drastically reduces.

Drones are following them 24/7 now and GPS tracks them and send text message to every villager in this region how far they are from those elepant herds and alert them if they come too close, but very often it's the rogue loner young elephants running wild from the herds caused troubles.

Good! Then all you need now good quick reaction team with elephants & trucks to move them to the spot quickly... Lone rougues can be easily repulsed with 2-3 adult bulls.

^^ Few facts: India's wild elephant population 33000+ China's 250...actually those few remaining Elephants need protection from Chinese not the other way :pound:
Yes, I too checked it. The number is horrifyingly low.
Only 100 km² can house them all... If that few elephants are getting into conflict with people, that means their habitat is terribly fragmented.

Atleast it isn't decreasing & has crossed 300 in 2018. Could be worse...

China has 300+ Asian elephants, Asian elephants usually live in tropical regions and China doesn't have many tropical regions, only a small tract of land bordering Myamar is good tropical habitat for Asian elephants.
