China's Five hundred meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) is the world's premier radio telescope.

There are other radio telescopes in frequent use. The public is probably most familiar with Very Large Array radio interferometers (which is seen in movies such as Contact). I have provided a picture from Wikipedia of a Very Large Array radio interferometer (see picture below).

However, radio telescopes arranged in an array to create an interferometer have a drawback. The sensitivity of a Very Large Array is limited to the sensitivity of an individual radio telescope. This means the entire Very Large Array interferometer can only see as far as a single small radio telescope. The resolution is incredible, but the sensitivity is the same as a single small unit.

In contrast, China's FAST 500-meter-aperture telescope is the world's MOST SENSITIVE radio telescope. It can see to the edge of the known Universe!

China's FAST radio telescope is TWICE AS SENSITIVE as Arecibo.

The former world's largest radio telescope is Arecibo. The new Chinese FAST radio telescope is twice as sensitive as Arecibo.

THE FIVE-HUNDRED-METER APERTURE SPHERICAL RADIO TELESCOPE (FAST) PROJECT | International Journal of Physics D

"Figure 25 Distribution of the halo clouds with green lines indicate Arecibo sky coverage, which will be
enlarged by a factor ~ 2 by FAST.
This figure is adopted from the white paper 'Galactic Astronomy with the
Arecibo L-band Feed Array' [12]"

THE FIVE-HUNDRED-METER APERTURE SPHERICAL RADIO TELESCOPE (FAST) PROJECT | International Journal of Physics D

"The fundamental scientific motivation for building the largest radio telescope is to survey the radio universe by utilizing FAST‘s unparalleled sensitivity and high surveying speed. FAST should help to enhance our understanding of cosmology, galaxy evolution, interstellar medium (ISM) life cycle, star formation and exoplanets. The scientific goals include

 Survey the Galactic ISM in HI at a resolution comparable to the current large scale CO surveys;
 Discover ~4000 new Galactic pulsars and search for the first extragalactic pulsars;
 Detect tens of thousands of HI galaxies and detect individual massive galaxies up to z~1;
 Spectroscopic survey of the radio spectra of rich Galactic sources with continuous coverage
between 70 MHz and 3 GHz;
 Search for radio signals from exoplanets."

Calculating the ratio of China's FAST sensitivity compared to Arecibo.

Arecibo Observatory has an aperture of 305 meters. This means the radius of the collector dish is 152.5 meters.

The total area of the collector dish follows the approximation formula of pi*(radius^2). There is a slight depression to the disc, but the calculated surface area is pretty close.

China's FAST radio telescope has an aperture of 500 meters. This means the radius of the collector dish is 250 meters.

Calculation of the sensitivity of China's FAST compared to Arecibo Observatory.

[pi*(250 meters)^2] / [pi*(152.5 meters)^2] = (250 meters)^2 / (152.5 meters)^2 = 62,500 / 23,256 = 2.7

In conclusion, the calculation shows that China's FAST radio telescope is 2.7 times more sensitive than Arecibo Observatory.

Nope, Soviet Circus troupe used to come in India and were quite famous in the world. Many of the Chinese showbizz acrobatics seem to reminiscent of those of Soviets.

And rest, seeing that huge bowl in exotic location: I bet many motorcyclists, skateboard guys would be dreaming to take plunge..

Got that joke.
But I really don't think that CCP would be very happy if me, you and @Martian go there for skateboarding.
I will search elsewhere. :biggrin2:
BTW, keep posting, your threads are informative and sorry for trolls @Martian Buddy. :p

The Hans are now going to claim that the entire area of the universe covered by the radio telescope belongs to China. :rofl:
it could happen afterall. many eyewitness & abductee accounts tell of the UFOnauts/ETs & MIBs to be having very 'asian' (aka, chinese) facial features. so china is already, 'out there', bringing gifts to kings & emperors of far off civilisations from alpha draconis' reptilians to who knows which all. later their planets & galaxies will be claimed as chinese territories.

no, @Razor? :laugh:

Not right now but after 150-200 years. They will show this fotos and which areas of space were captured by this telescopic to claim theirs and will claim that Emperor 11 Jumping Pig from Pig Dynasty ruled this part of space through this telescope. :pound::pound::pound::pound: @Martian
