After warning India, China asks Russia to stay away from South China Sea

BEIJING: India has now got company of another country, Russia, in being the target of Chinese ire over the South China Sea controversy. China on Tuesday hit out against the Russian decision to explore for oil in sea areas that Beijing claims to be its own.

China has been vehemently opposed to ONGC Videsh Limited exploring for oil in the sea area along with a Vietnamese company. A Russian company has now joined the exploration work in the area.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, foreign ministry Liu Weimin expressed the hope that foreign companies should respect and support the efforts of countries in South China Sea region to settle their disputes instead of meddling in the affair.

He also advised other countries in the region to meet each other half way with China, and avoid getting countries outside the region involved in the sea dispute.

Asserting that China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and their adjacent waters, Liu said China was committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes through direct negotiation and friendly consultation. The basis of negotiations would be respect for historical facts and international law, he said.

They did not actually asked Russia to 'stay away'. The spokesperson said that outside countries should avoid getting involved in the SCS dispute.

This is good sign that PRC now at least identifies the SCS territory claim being in dispute compared to their earlier stand that SCS belongs to China.

Russia is supplying modern arms to Vietnam

It is only natural that Russians get these oil and Gas blocks

What is better that if Russia can show the middle finger to the Chinese
then the Chinese claims and demands that SCS is their property just fall flat

Now even the yanks will roll out the goodies for all SCS nations

This bully China will be definitely tamed

China ask Russia to stay away from South China Sea - World - DNA

After its spat with India over the oil exploration in blocs claimed by Vietnam in the disputed South China Sea, China on Tuesday asked Russia to stay away from taking up similar operation at the invitation of Hanoi.

Asked about reports that Vietnam and Russian companies inked a deal for oil and gas exploration in the South China Sea, (SCS), Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Liu Weimin told a media briefing here that countries that were not concerned with the dispute should stay away.

"China's enjoys indisputable sovereignty over SCS. We hope the disputes can be solved through negotiations by countries concerned", he said.

"We hope the parties concerned can reach half way and avoid having countries outside the region get involved in the dispute", he added.

At the same, China also hopes that companies from countries outside the SCS region could avoid getting involved in disputes in the region, he said.

Reaffirming China's indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and their adjacent waters, Liu said China was committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes through direct negotiation and friendly consultation with countries concerned based on respect for historical facts and international law.

Similar remarks were made last year by China about ONGC taking oil exploration in the blocs claimed by Vietnam.

Taking strong exception, China has asked India to stop taking up such activity, which New Delhi brushed aside asserting that its cooperation with Hanoi is under the international law.

China had also reacted to External Affairs Minister, SM Krishna's statement few days ago that "SCS is the property of the world and those trade-ways must be free from any national interference".

China said that despite disputes, the navigation in the area was never disrupted.

We have to get ourselves port facilities at Cam Ranh Bay, then we can start having some control around the SCS and give the PLAN their very own string of pearls.

Well, I believe China already has its own string of pearls... in fact lot harder pearls than the ones that surround us.

Russia , India are the old friends of Vietnam . With Russia, from the 80' of last century it have already a Joint Venture in oil exploitation and this Corporation is still now make an important annual profit for both countries. Why not to extend this mutual cooperation in this time if it entirely conform with international law (see map) . Perhaps we can see more some other new Joint Venture in this region !
