When #Cheetah are coming back to #India. A look at how the last of the lots were hunted, maimed and domesticated for hunting parties. Video made in 1939.

And then the last lot of cheetah. 3 cheetah hunted by King of Koriya (Chhattisgarh) in 1947. By 1952 government of India declared then extinct. The first step of species extinction in local population extinction. Many are facing now in India. Hope we will pay attention to them.

Cheetas were partially domesticated by some african tribe as well. They are most docile of all big cats, and there is no record of them killing humans is wild. They also don't roar but meow like house cats .

it's authentic. with one gaming licence, there used to a list of wildlife one could hunt per licence. elephant gaming license was the costliest and rare. this happens in africa even now.
my grandfather and his brothers used to host these tourists from around the world.

initially in 50's it was for sport, but later it was more about protecting the cattle when villagers complain, until Govt stopped giving these licences.

Sir, which more species do you want to see re-introduced in future?

Cheetah's re-introduction is a good initiative, btw.

haven't given much thought to this, depends on capacity of wild life authority to maintain and sustain wildlife. but i hope, as nation becomes prosperous, GoI can take up more wildlife conservation initiatives.

but one more species i would like to see, there used to be a dog sized antelopes in India. i don't even know how they look, only seen their skulls mounted in our houses as a kid.
