U.S. Weapon Manufacturers Feeling the Wrath of Arms-Control Activists
U.S. production of air-launched weapons that are widely used by the Air Force and foreign allies might be in jeopardy as a result of a global advocacy campaign that targets manufacturers of military hardware.

Antiwar and arms-control groups over the past decade have homed in on landmines and cluster munitions, and are now also targeting armed drones as another category of weapons that should be banned because they harm and kill civilians.

The manufacturing of one of the U.S. military's most widely used precision-guided munitions, the Sensor Fuzed Weapon, could be imperiled, industry sources said, because several multinational banks and insurance companies — under pressure from advocacy groups — have decided to no longer do business with producers of weapons that fall under the broad rubric of cluster munitions.

this is obtain for china.
I too share a similar feeling. Of late I think that IA & IAF have been procuring systems to deter any massive artillery/ armored thrust by Chinese forces.
The flurry of such weapon systems Prahar, CBU all point to this. Chinese have a huge advantage in terms of armour (IFV, ICVS & APCs, wheeled tanks etc..) & artillery (Mortar, SPH, Towed artillery, MBRLs). Weapon systems such as Prahar, MBRLs & CBU do present some form of deterrence.
I sure hope we get our act together in artillery & the mechanized forces div.

This high tech CBU cluster bomb actually is a great addition to the already hi-tech Indian armed forces. But right now, what is more needed is real hardcore Dal-roti stuff like the sudarshan smart bomb, prahaar, pinaka rocket launcher, DRDO c4isr backbone connecting all wings of armed forces in real time, in very high numbers. CBU cluster bomb is like an add-on to an existing infrastructure. Unless we have an existing infrastructure, we cannot use it to its fullest potential.

Aerospace Diary: Textron To Produce Weapons for India’s Jaguars

Textron To Produce Weapons for India's Jaguars

Textron Defense Systems will start production of India's order for 512 CBU-105 sensor fuzed weapons (SFW) soon. The $257.7 million sale was contracted via the U.S. Foreign Military Sales mechanism in November 2010. Encouraged by India's continuing move away from reliance on Russian weapons, Textron is now marketing other defense systems in the country.

Ellen Lord, senior vice president of Textron Defense Systems, told AIN that the company will meet an offset commitment of some $110 million for the SFW. Bharat Forge has signed an agreement to provide parts for Bell Helicopter, another Textron subsidiary. "We are now listing 20 companies for components for global requirements, including thermal batteries," Lord added.

The SFW will be carried by Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar strike aircraft. Textron will work with subcontractors, the IAF and Hindustan Aeronautics to integrate the weapons. The SFW has come under scrutiny, since the Oslo Treaty bans the international sale or transfer of cluster munitions. Textron said the weapon is exempt because it has several proven features that prevent hazardous unexploded ordnance. "It hasn't been an issue in India. The government of India asked for this since it is a clean weapon," said Kevin Cosgriff, senior vice president for international business.

Textron said it briefed the IAF on the Bell-Boeing V-22 tiltrotor during last November's Dubai Air Show. "There is a requirement [in India] for a heavy-lift helicopter. However, for longer range, the V-22 [steps in]," said Cosgriff. Textron has also presented the ground control stations produced by another subsidiary, AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems, to the Defense Research Development Organisation (DRDO). "They provide for different levels of autonomy"¦we have 700,000 hours of experience with the RQ-7 Shadow UAV on sensor management," Cosgriff added.
