NEW DELHI: The CBI on Monday searched the residence of NDTV founder Prannoy Roy here and three other locations for allegedly causing losses to a private bank. The agency has registered a case against Roy, his wife Radhika and RRPR Holdings for allegedly causing losses of Rs 48 crore to ICICI Bank, CBI sources said. They said the agency was conducting searches at four places in the national capital and Dehradun.

In a statement, NDTV said: "This morning, the CBI stepped up the concerted harassment of NDTV and its promoters based on the same old endless false accusations. NDTV and its promoters will fight tirelessly against this witch-hunt by multiple agencies. We will not succumb to these attempts to blatantly undermine democracy and free speech in India. We have one message to those who are trying to destroy the institutions of India and everything it stands for: we will fight for our country and overcome these forces."

Information and broadcasting minister M Venkaiah Naidu denied NDTV's "witch-hunting" charge and said that "law is taking its own course". "This government doesn't believe in interfering. They(CBI) must have some information, that's why they might have taken steps," Naidu told ANI.

Very well come step. NDTV has lot more charges than simply money laundering. They can sell country for few ruppes. Traitor gang need to be fixed.

I guess it's not just an ICICI case, the raid aims to penetrate deep into their funding sources IMO.

Not that I'm opposed to what's going on now, the Government could have handled NDTV a little differently. It could have simply plugged its cash inflows from dubious sources, and let market-forces (i.e. its shit TRPs) run it to the ground. NDTV would have been robbed of the excuse of crying "emergency" and "press freedom infringement." It could have then made ICICI Bank take on NDTV for loan default like any other bank-borrower dispute.

Whatever floats your boat though, there are plenty of allegations against NDTV including FEMA voilation, that there is book out there named Frauds by NDTV something like that. Media is not above Law. Media houses have been earlier shut down for trivial reasons by other govt.

By the way if you miss NDTV style biased news, dont panic there are plenty of channels which provide news in that flavor like PTV, Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC etc.

here's why:

....So when NDTV claims in a statement that it is vendetta, and points out that “lakhs and crores of rupees have not been paid by several industrialists and no criminal case has yet been registered against any of them”, it defies logic. The law does not proceed against alleged wrongdoing in a descending order of the size of the wrongdoing. It goes after who it can, and in no particular order. Quite apart from the misstatement that “no criminal case” has been registered against any big businessman (Vijay Mallya being exhibit A to disprove this point, and raids have been conducted against other businessmen, including the son of P Chidambaram), NDTV really needs to focus on clearing its name. Who else is being targeted or not targeted does not lessen its own culpability, assuming it has indeed something wrong....

and that, ultimately:

Media houses that claim the right to investigate the high and mighty must equally be subject to the same scrutiny that they think powerful people ought to subject themselves to.

Media is not above the law. When media becomes unviable, true freedom needs you to check the colour of the money you are receiving.

Pronav Roy was a huge fanboy of Indira Gandhi's Congress in 1980s...He was a rising star in TV news and analysis business...later..he bacame close to Rajiv Gandhi and company....and that's probably the reason he has a lot of property in Dehradun area. as Rajiv Group was active in that region and bought land, houses and other properties in the hills. You may see a lot more congress skeletons falling from the Hills of Uttarakhand. in a year.

Little did they know that day of reckoning will arrive with end of Congress rule and arrival of BJP...and all schemes of Congress era will be exposed. India in right direction...no one should be above the Law.

Rajiv's schooling along with other prominent political heir and most of the major ecosystem created by congress happened from Doon School dehradun

this is whole an ecosystem of congress take the case of karan thapar whose father father was prem nath thapar chief of army staff during lost cause in 62 under nehru

sagrika ghose father was the former justice of supreme court appointed by nehru so are all the example

there is a whole lot of ecosystem in indian intellegentsia and most of these are fake liberals who are just enjoying the previleges of power

If I remember an old rumor correctly there are tracts of Jungle Land owned by Gandhi family in foothills of HP. If true, God only knows how a non himachali acquired that!(Yes there are strict laws regarding land in Himachal, non Himachali can only lease land and buy flats. Rural Himachali(non tribal) can buy land in Towns/Cities but not in tribal areas. City dwelling Himachali cannot buy land in villages & in tribal areas. People belonging to Tribal areas can buy land anywhere..... But how tons & tons of Bihari/UP muslims got settled recently in HP in this decade(ie bought farmland/houses) is a mystery, as indigenous muslim population in HP is very minuscule- predominantly Muslim gujjars )

the book i mentioned above, if am not wrong, also makes a mention about this fact and the lineage of some of these power-broker band, suggesting/telling (about) the commonality & 'common interests' shared by them & (thus) their instinct towards 'tower defense'.
