both aren't same , British have different identity for several century, I don't know when was Catalan last time have separate from spain completely , Since the Arab invasion and reconquesta ,Catalonia always a integral part of spain...even before that they are part of visigoth empire and also both were part of roman hispania province...

It's just ego of some ppl who thing as they provide spain much more than other province , so we deserve to be separate ,huhaaaaa ..next day Barcelona would demand separation from Catalonia by same logic....

@salute no!...silent majority is ignored , gangs in catalonia force silent majority to keep themselves inside home....and commie spanish version of cadre like indian brethren aided with self-hating mechanism want this anarchy....
Read my above post about reality of catalona separatism.

However, from Indian POV, it is a payback for their continued hostility and sabotage. It is a pleasure seeing them break for an eventual islamic invasion. Now, we will preach our secularism to them. Even supply low technology arms to islamists to attack EU. Sponsoring Scotland separatists should also be considered. That would be real fun

Why do you care so much about a bunch of white trash killing each other off? It will probably be good for the whole Humanity if the westerner trash went back to killing each other instead of the world like they used to historically
Am I the only one who is enjoying the slow demise of EU? Disintegration of EU and hence the drying up of the funds for our commies from EU is a great thing to hope from an Indian POV. So I suggest the nationalists of this forum to not support Spain in this mess
Don't live in fools paradise....those hypocrite Catalan separatist want to be part of EU ..EU not gonna die by these movement..but multi-cultural nationhood would surely and it's a defeat for idea of strong multi-cultural nation , unlike EU ( which is 4th reich under economic mask) .
Disintegration of spain not gonna effect leftist intellectual/NGO founders as it's their objective from first time , success of these disintegration going to be moral booster of those guys whose agents in India and asia will propagate same BS . Victory for spain is true defeat of those forces who are try to disintegrate us , those nation who funded anti-india activity directly are under no threat of these type of disintegration for now .
It's time for true nationalist to stand with Spain ...they are technically alone in whole mainland continent and trashed everywhere ...

Never thought I would be saying this, but I stand with @YagamiLight 's point. I would rather like to see them fight and break, rather than support any of it.

We should not be opposing the aspirations of the people, but at the same time support some political solution in Spain.

India is a different scenario and I think giving more powers to States will make the federation strong.

Macron just said if they declare Independence they will be kicked out of the EU and face sanctions. They can enjoy their new freedom in poverty.
Or joint the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, and Catalonia. :p

So is there any anti-naional french in Britney who want to brand themselves as minor-britisher rather french ?
There is an independentist Breton party just like in Catalonia. There are also “autonomists” who want more powers for the regional institutions. I hope that we never have to face the same kind of problems that happened in Catalonia. But situations are extremely different of course. For one thing there is nothing like Barcelona in Brittany . Barcelona is a huge city, a real rival to Madrid.

France has 12% muslims. Almost all of them are agents of Arabs and attend mosque regularly. France already has significant number of sleeper cells to wreak havoc, fund separatism. Unless French become united under anti Islam stand, expect some problems by these internal dissent and separatism.

Catalan separatists win absolute parliamentary majority

Catalan separatists won a crucial snap poll Thursday, plunging their region into further uncertainty after a failed independence bid rattled Europe and triggered Spain's worst political crisis in decades.

With turnout at a record high and 99.9 percent of the ballots counted, the election handed a mandate back to the region's ousted separatist leaders, even after they campaigned from exile and behind bars.

In a clear indicator of the huge gulf over independence afflicting Catalan society, anti-secessionist centrist party Ciudadanos had the biggest individual result with 37 of the 135 seats in the regional parliament.

"It's a strange feeling. We won the majority of seats, but we lost in votes," 26-year-old doctor and separatist supporter Fran Robles told AFP after the results were announced.

"It's a good reflection of the reality that Catalonia is politically divided," he added.

But unless the three pro-independence lists fail to clinch a deal to work together in the coming months, they will rule Catalonia with 70 of the 135 seats in parliament -- two less than their previous tally of 72.

Back to square one .. the independentists won elections for local parliament with a majority of seats . It is unclear how long it will take for them to agree on a new leader since they are more divided as ever.

Young Catalan liberal rises in challenge to Rajoy's grip on Spanish power

(Reuters) - Forget the traditional Socialist opposition and perhaps even the Catalan separatists: the main threat to Spain's conservative prime minister may now come from a Barcelona politician dedicated to national unity - Ines Arrimadas.

The 36-year-old leader of the liberal Ciudadanos party in Catalonia has jumped to the frontline of Spanish politics by coming out on top in elections to the region's assembly. Supporters even compare her performance with Emmanuel Macron's meteoric rise to the presidency across the border in France.

Laying down the gauntlet to Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and the separatists alike, Arrimadas boosted her party's share of the vote to more than 25 percent in Thursday's snap election, up from just 7.6 percent two years ago.

That made Ciudadanos ("Citizens") the biggest group in the assembly, ahead of parties backing either more Catalan autonomy or outright independence which had won every regional election since the restoration of Spanish democracy in the 1970s.

Arrimadas will struggle to form a regional coalition as collectively separatist parties achieved a narrow majority.

Still, she celebrated victory with hundreds of supporters in the streets of Barcelona on Thursday night, flanked by her party's national leader, 38-year-old Albert Rivera.

On Friday she made an appeal for unity following October's independence referendum which led to the Catalan leader fleeing the country, other separatists leaders landing in jail and Madrid imposing direct rule.
